More than half a million JD Gyms members are being brought into JD’s wider loyalty network, with rewards now stretching from sportswear to meals, travel and entertainment.
For more than half a million JD Gyms members, the monthly membership is about to come with rather more than access to treadmills, squat racks and the occasional negotiation over whose turn it is on the cable machine. The new JD Gyms Rewards programme connects gym membership with JD STATUS, extending discounts, cashback offers and other perks beyond the gym itself.
At the same time, JD Sports Fashion is broadening JD STATUS with a separate feature that allows members to earn JD Cash through spending with more than 40 participating third-party brands.
Together, the two developments show JD looking at loyalty less as a shop-floor incentive and more as a way of keeping customers within a broader ecosystem spanning fitness, retail and everyday spending.
What JD Gyms Rewards gives members

JD Gyms Rewards is the fitness business’s first loyalty programme and is available to its membership base of more than 500,000 people.
Members can access exclusive offers, discounts, cashback offers and other benefits alongside their existing gym membership. Crucially, the programme also includes access to JD STATUS benefits, bringing sportswear, footwear and accessory offers into the same proposition.
That creates an unusually direct bridge between two parts of the JD portfolio. Someone who trains at JD Gyms can now receive benefits linked to shopping at JD, rather than the relationship ending when they leave the gym floor.
Lee Matthews, Chief Operating Officer at JD Gyms, said: “We believe that gym memberships should deliver more than just a great place to train. JD Gyms Rewards gives members so much more, and by bringing JD STATUS into the mix, we’re creating a proposition that goes far beyond traditional gym memberships – this is a completely unique experience for members.
“This is a really exciting enhancement to our membership proposition and a great example of how we’re continuing to invest in delivering greater value for members.”
JD STATUS moves beyond shopping at JD

The more significant shift may be happening outside the gym.
JD STATUS Rewards introduces a way for members to build their JD Cash balance while spending with participating partners rather than solely through JD itself.
More than 40 brands are involved. Named partners include Nando’s, Uber Eats and SEE Tickets, while the wider current line-up also includes Domino’s, Uber, Deliveroo, Morrisons, Cineworld, Sony, Airbnb, Jet2 Holidays and Go Ape.
JD Cash accumulated through those purchases can subsequently be spent online or in JD stores.
The result is a loyalty mechanism attached to a much wider range of ordinary consumer spending. Food delivery, entertainment, groceries and travel can now feed back into credit for sports fashion purchases.
Four million JD STATUS users — and £120m distributed

JD already has substantial scale behind the STATUS programme.
According to Conrad Edkins, Loyalty & Strategic Projects Director at JD, the platform has reached four million users in the UK and distributed more than £120 million in JD Cash since launch.
“We know that our JD STATUS model works – having reached four million UK users and distributed over £120 million in JD Cash in the UK since its launch – and we are keen to apply that expertise to JD Gyms Rewards, too,” he said.
For JD, those numbers help explain the logic of extending the programme. Loyalty schemes become considerably more useful to a retailer when customers have reasons to interact with them between purchases, rather than remembering they exist shortly before buying another pair of trainers.
The new partner network provides precisely that opportunity.
Fitness becomes part of a wider loyalty ecosystem
There is also a broader consumer question here.
Gym operators have traditionally competed on familiar territory: price, equipment, locations, classes and facilities. JD Gyms Rewards adds another element by attaching value outside the physical gym.
That does not make the quality of a workout any less important. Nobody has yet perfected a loyalty perk capable of doing the final set of lunges on your behalf. But it does give members another way to judge what they receive for their monthly fee.
For JD, meanwhile, the attraction lies in connecting customers who exercise, shop, eat out, order food, travel and buy entertainment through one rewards structure.
Edkins said the expansion reflects how JD’s customers choose to spend their money and is intended to make the relationship between its different businesses more seamless.
The JD STATUS Rewards feature was developed with Propello Cloud, and JD says further partners are expected to join in the coming months.
The important shift is therefore bigger than another list of member discounts. JD is attempting to turn loyalty from something that happens at checkout into something woven through considerably more of its customers’ everyday spending.
