Crystal Palace Football Club are European champions. Words few supporters ever thought they would hear, yet on a famous night in Leipzig, Palace defeated Spanish side Rayo Vallecano 1-0 to lift the UEFA Conference League trophy and cap off what will forever be remembered as the greatest period in the club’s history.

Twelve months ago, winning the FA Cup felt like the impossible dream. A day forever into the hearts of Palace supporters. But somehow, unbelievably, it has now been matched – perhaps even eclipsed.

Because Crystal Palace are no longer just FA Cup winners. They are European champions.

Since arriving in 2024, Oliver Glasner has transformed not only the team but the entire football club. Palace have always been a club of highs and lows, administrations, uncertainty, ownership changes, selling star players and constantly rebuilding. But now, they are forever steeped in history.

The road to European glory was far from straightforward.

After qualifying for the Europa League through their FA Cup triumph, Palace were controversially moved into the Conference League following UEFA ownership issues, while Nottingham Forest took their place.

Supporters were frustrated, angry even, but Glasner refused to let the noise distract from the job in hand.

And after a long campaign, game number 60 of the season – Palace stood on top!

This season brought uncertainty. Eberechi Eze departed. Marc Guéhi left in January. Questions surrounded Jean-Philippe Mateta’s future. A thin squad battled through injuries, setbacks and pressure. Yet Glasner remained the heartbeat of it all.

Even in difficult moments, he spoke like someone who genuinely cared about the football club. He believed in the direction. He believed Palace could win.
And now, he is forever a legend.

Mateta staying at the football club proved to be one of the season’s defining decisions, and fittingly, it was his moment that sealed immortality. His goal proved decisive, the strike that ultimately won Crystal Palace the UEFA Conference League and secured European glory.

But perhaps even more memorable was what followed. Mateta’s iconic celebration, kicking the corner flag as thousands of Palace fans roared “boom” quickly became a moment shared by the entire team, with players joining in before embracing together.

It perfectly summed up this Palace side – united, connected and a team that will forever be remembered as club legends.

Before kick-off, Leipzig became a sea of red and blue. More than 20,000 supporters travelled from across Europe. Berlin, Munich, Prague, driving to the game. Fans determined to witness history. Streets were shut as Palace fans marched to the stadium in scenes few could ever have imagined.

Inside, the noise never stopped.

Special credit must also go to Rayo Vallecano. Their supporters, magnificent throughout, remained inside the stadium to applaud Palace lifting the trophy.

Afterwards, fans of both clubs filled the streets and bars of Leipzig together, sharing stories and celebrating an unforgettable occasion.

Three trophies in twelve months and three trophies in their history. The FA Cup. The Community Shield. The UEFA Conference League. Now, Europa League football awaits.

For a club that once fought simply to survive, Crystal Palace suddenly look like a club with no ceiling. The future has never felt brighter.
