The KICKR Smart Trainer has never been one for standing still, and Wahoo’s latest move proves it. With the launch of its newest KICKR Smart Trainer alongside the upgraded KICKR BIKE, the fitness tech brand has doubled down on its mission to make indoor riding smoother, smarter and far less temperamental.
At the heart of both launches is a feature riders have been crying out for: built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. It’s a practical upgrade, not a gimmick, and one that quietly changes the indoor training experience for the better. No more juggling Bluetooth and ANT+ connections like a nervous plate spinner. No more mid-session drop-outs just as the legs start screaming. This is about staying connected, start to finish.
Wahoo’s broader ambition hasn’t changed. It still wants to be the global leader in smart fitness training, uniting indoor and outdoor riding through a connected ecosystem of hardware, software and digital services. The latest KICKR Smart Trainer and KICKR BIKE are simply the most refined expressions of that goal to date.
By integrating Wi-Fi directly into the devices, Wahoo removes the need for multiple hardware layers and dramatically improves data transfer speeds. On-screen stats now arrive over 65% faster than with Bluetooth or ANT+, making workouts feel sharper and eRacing more precise. It’s the sort of improvement you don’t always notice at first—but once you do, there’s no going back.
Wi-Fi also unlocks real-time troubleshooting through Wahoo’s customer support team and allows automatic firmware updates in the background. Less faff. More riding. As it should be.
Mike Saturnia, CEO at Wahoo, said: “Our team is constantly working to add new capabilities and features to our state-of-the-art KICKR products. We are excited that Wahoo continues to lead innovation in the category by being the first major brand to introduce Wi-Fi on their smart trainers and bikes.”
He added, “We are creating the most innovative connected fitness ecosystem on the market, and these new Wi-Fi-enabled products play a key role.”
There’s also a sense of history wrapped into this launch. It marks ten years since the original KICKR Smart Trainer arrived in 2012 with a simple but disruptive idea: indoor riding could be better. That original unit helped ignite an indoor training revolution, one that now spans smart trainers, bikes, apps and full-blown virtual racing platforms.
A decade on, that revolution has matured into what Wahoo describes as the world’s most complete indoor training ecosystem. The continued evolution of the KICKR range shows a company that hasn’t lost its appetite for improvement—or its willingness to rethink how athletes train.
These latest releases also slot neatly into Wahoo’s wider digital strategy. Following the acquisition of RGT Cycling in April 2022 and the launch of its streaming service, Wahoo X, the brand has been steadily tightening the links between hardware and subscription-based training.
Chris Fischer, Chief Commercial Officer of Subscription Services at Wahoo, said:
“We remain committed to enhancing the training experience for professional and recreational cyclists, alike, through Wahoo X.
Within this service, Wahoo RGT allows you to train with other riders, while SYSTM provides sports science-based workouts and training plans.
The addition of these new KICKR devices with Wi-Fi creates a more unified, connected fitness experience so our athletes can spend more time riding and less time connecting.”
That, in many ways, is the point of this launch. Not flash. Not hype. Just fewer barriers between rider and road—virtual or otherwise.
The new KICKR Smart Trainer (v6) is available now for £1,099.99, while the KICKR BIKE v2 comes in at £3,499.99. More details can be found at www.wahoofitness.com.
