Bramall Lane Goes Full Chip Butty as Midnite Rolls a Giant One

Sheffield United Chip Butty

Sheffield United’s famous chip butty anthem finally got the tribute it deserves – in the form of a colossal, golden, gravy-dodging sandwich wheeled out at Bramall Lane like a carb-loaded trophy before the Steel City derby.

The giant chip butty, dreamed up by Midnite – the fastest-growing sportsbook in the UK and principal partners of the Blades – was paraded around the pitch ahead of kick-off, turning heads in every stand and giving hungry home fans one more reason to sing from the soul.

From terrace anthem to touchline showpiece

Sheffield United Chip Butty

Every home game, Bramall Lane shakes as Sheffield United supporters roar out their beloved chip butty anthem. It’s as much a part of the matchday ritual as the team sheet and the first bone-crunching tackle.

Midnite decided that if the song was going to echo around the ground, it might as well have a mascot – so they built one. The towering chip butty, created in collaboration with local favourites Brook Bakery, took pride of place on the touchline before the derby got underway, a tongue-in-cheek symbol of what football in this city is really about: pride, humour and proper scran.

But this wasn’t just a bit of matchday theatre. As part of the initiative, Midnite will be donating hundreds of chip butties to food banks and homeless charities across Sheffield in the coming weeks, making sure the celebration of a club ritual also delivers something meaningful off the pitch.

Midnite’s season of giving back to Blades fans

This is only the latest chapter in a partnership that’s been far more than a logo on a shirt. As Sheffield United’s front-of-shirt sponsors, Midnite have made a point of embedding themselves in the community and giving something tangible back to supporters.

Across the season, Midnite have:

  • Covered fan travel costs for away matches, softening the blow of following the Blades up and down the country.
  • Treated supporters to fresh haircuts at the start of 2026, helping fans kick off the new year in style.
  • Backed the boss in mural form, with a 50-square-metre tribute to Chris Wilder now standing proudly opposite the stadium.

The giant chip butty is simply the latest in a series of stunts and gestures designed to show that Midnite are in this for more than brand exposure.

“We aren’t just here to use the club and stick our logo on the shirt”

Andrew Mook, Head of Brand at Midnite, summed up the thinking behind the oversized sarnie and the wider partnership with Sheffield United.

“We wanted to give something back to Sheffield United fans in a way that is synonymous with the club. The chip butty anthem is instantly recognisable as being something unique to Sheffield United, and by creating a giant chip butty, we wanted to have some fun, while ultimately delivering a strong message.

“Midnite is dedicated to offering value to Sheffield United fans. We aren’t just here to use the club and stick our logo on the shirt. We want to become a part of the club, and our initiatives and activations have all been designed to bring fans closer to the clubs they love.

“It has been great to work alongside local Sheffield businesses to create the chip butty, and then to help give back to the community foodbank and charities.”

On a day when rivalry with the neighbours is usually the dominant flavour, Midnite and Sheffield United managed to fold community spirit, local business and a terrace classic into one gloriously over-the-top gesture.

For Blades fans, it was a reminder that their anthem isn’t just a song – it’s a symbol of what the club means to the city. And now, thanks to Midnite, that symbol comes with extra chips.
