LeBron James and Nike Basketball are looking towards the next generation with a new signature shoe that combines lightweight performance technology with lessons drawn from his extraordinary career.
LeBron James has spent much of his basketball career setting the standard. Now, with the arrival of the Nike LeBron 24, the emphasis is shifting towards helping the next generation establish standards of their own.
Nike has officially unveiled the latest addition to James’s signature footwear collection, describing it as his lightest game shoe yet. Scheduled for a global release on 17 November, the LeBron 24 brings new material technology, an updated cushioning system and a rather more personal approach to the stories behind its colourways.
The result is a shoe designed for the speed and physical demands of modern basketball, while drawing on the experiences that helped shape one of the sport’s most recognisable players.
KingKnit Leads the LeBron 24 Performance Updates
At the centre of the new design is KingKnit, a knitted upper developed specifically for the LeBron footwear range.
Constructed using a combination of engineered yarns, the material is intended to provide the strength and containment required for aggressive basketball movements without adding unnecessary weight.
For players making rapid changes of direction, accelerating into space or launching towards the basket, Nike has focused on keeping the foot secure while allowing the upper to remain breathable.
The company has also introduced a full-length React foam drop-in midsole, working alongside Air Zoom units positioned beneath the forefoot and heel.
That combination is designed to provide responsive cushioning during repeated jumps, landings and changes of pace.
A midfoot shank adds structural support, while a revised traction pattern completes the performance package.
Together, the technologies represent Nike’s approach to producing a lighter LeBron shoe suited to the increasingly quick, explosive nature of contemporary basketball.
LeBron James Wants the Next Generation to Write Its Own Story
Beyond the technical changes, the LeBron 24 introduces a different direction for the signature collection.
Rather than simply celebrating James’s achievements, Nike is using the new model to explore the principles and experiences that have influenced his career.
The idea is to offer younger athletes something they can interpret and apply to their own journeys, rather than presenting LeBron’s accomplishments as a template that must be followed.
“The LeBron 24 is about giving the next generation the tools and confidence to create their own path,” says LeBron. “We made my lightest signature game shoe yet for the speed of today’s game, but the bigger idea is helping young athletes take what I’ve learned and use it to chase greatness in their own way, whatever that means to them.”
That philosophy will extend across the collection through five themes, each representing a different aspect of James’s experience.
Five Principles Behind the New LeBron Collection

Nike has organised the LeBron 24 colourways around Wonder, Family, Fear, Luck and Discovery.
Wonder reflects the imagination and belief required to pursue an ambition before it becomes a reality. Family recognises the relationships and support systems that help athletes through the difficult stages of their development.
Fear explores the role of uncertainty and adversity, and how those experiences can contribute to resilience and motivation.
Luck takes a more practical view of opportunity, highlighting the importance of preparation, discipline and consistency.
Discovery completes the collection, focusing on personal growth and the process of understanding yourself before measuring success against external expectations.
There is plenty of philosophy packed into those five words, but they provide a recognisable framework for the experiences that extend beyond the basketball court.
The ‘Stars’ Colourway Returns to LeBron’s Childhood
The first LeBron 24 colourway, known as ‘Stars’, draws inspiration from an AAU basketball team that played a formative role in James’s childhood.
It is a fitting place to begin a collection concerned with development and possibility.
By referencing his early basketball experiences rather than concentrating exclusively on the achievements that followed, Nike is connecting the new shoe with a period when James was still developing his own ambitions.
Future colourways will explore the remaining principles, using different chapters of his journey to build the wider LeBron 24 story.
When Does the Nike LeBron 24 Launch?
The Nike LeBron 24 launches globally on 17 November through Nike.com and selected retailers.
The opening ‘Stars’ colourway will introduce the collection, with further releases expanding on the five themes.
For Nike Basketball, the launch continues one of its most established signature footwear partnerships. For James, it offers a fresh way to connect his experiences with players coming through the sport.
The new chapter begins, appropriately enough, not with another reminder of where LeBron James has been, but with the young athletes hoping to discover where basketball might take them.
