ukactive Announces Theme for National Fitness Day 2025 — Here’s How to Get Involved

national fitness day london

National Fitness Day is back for 2025 — and this year, it’s not about six-packs, bootcamps or Instagram flexing. It’s about you. Literally. The campaign tagline says it all: Powered by you!

That’s not just a marketing flourish, it’s a rallying cry — a call for everyone, from Nan down the street to the PE teacher who still wears a whistle unironically, to get moving.

Taking place on Wednesday, 24 September 2025, National Fitness Day is once again setting out to remind the UK that physical activity isn’t reserved for Lycra-clad gym warriors or TikTok dance routines. It’s for everyone — and that includes the bloke in your office who insists walking to the printer counts as cardio.

Powered by you!” is more than a slogan — it’s an open invitation. Whether you’re Joe’s Gym or Mrs Wilkinson’s after-school dance troupe, you can slap your own spin on it. Think: “Powered by Joe’s Gym” or “Powered by Wake Up Shake Up”. Personalise it, localise it, own it.

This isn’t a top-down fitness dictatorship. It’s grassroots, it’s community-led, and it’s finally speaking a language people can understand — one that acknowledges we’re all different but still deserve to move, sweat and smile doing it.

Sweating the Stats

Let’s not sugar-coat the situation: one in four adults in England is classed as inactive. That’s fewer than 30 minutes of movement per week. Not per day — per week. And if you’re a woman, from a lower-income background, or from a Black or Asian community, you’re statistically even less likely to be active.

The numbers are grim, but the opportunity is golden. National Fitness Day 2025 is a golden ticket to shift those stats — and fast. It ties in neatly with the Government’s new NHS 10-Year Health Plan, fittingly named Fit for the Future. That plan hinges on mass engagement campaigns like this one. If ever there was a time to walk the talk — or rather, jog it — this is it.

Moving the Needle, One Push-Up at a Time

UK gym and leisure centre usage is already booming. The 2025 Health & Fitness Market Report clocked a record-breaking 11.5 million members across the UK’s health and fitness clubs, with over 600 million total visits in 2024. It’s proof that people want to be active — they just need a nudge.

And that’s exactly what National Fitness Day delivers.

The campaign comes fully armed this year with downloadable guides, digital posters, and ready-made social media kits to help fitness providers shout about their events. Whether you’re a massive gym chain or a local school, the resources are there. All that’s needed is the will.

Voices From the Top

Huw Edwards, ukactive’s CEO, isn’t mincing words. “As our nation continues to place greater value on physical and mental health, National Fitness Day is a powerful reminder of the many benefits of regular exercise — helping to support our mental wellbeing and overall quality of life.

“This year’s theme, ‘Powered by you!’, demonstrates that anyone can get involved, whether you’re a seasoned gym-goer or just beginning your health and fitness journey.”

And he’s right. The real genius of the campaign is its accessibility. No egos, no elitism — just energy and inclusion.

Tim Hollingsworth, CEO of Sport England, added a dose of cold, hard truth: “Active lifestyles prevent over 3 million cases of chronic illness a year – including depression, diabetes and dementia – and save £10.5 billion annually for the health and care system.

“National Fitness Day is a great moment to celebrate getting active and how important it is for the physical, mental, and economic health of the nation.”
