Kona 2025: Canyon Athletes Set for Triathlon’s Toughest Stage

Kona 2025 Triathlon Canyon athletes

This October, the Kona 2025 Triathlon returns to Hawaii’s Big Island, and once again, the world of endurance sport will hold its breath. On October 11th, the Women’s Triathlon World Championships descend on Kailua-Kona — a place where blistering heat, merciless winds, and 226.3 km of unforgiving terrain separate the contenders from the pretenders.

For decades, Kona has been the proving ground for triathlon’s toughest athletes. From the glassy start in Kailua Bay to the windswept Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway and the infamous Energy Lab, this is where races are won not just with lungs and legs, but with iron wills.

The 3.86 km swim tests resilience against unpredictable currents. The 180 km bike leg demands absolute control in punishing crosswinds. And then comes the 42 km marathon — rolling hills, searing heat, and the kind of mental warfare that would make a Navy SEAL wince.

Canyon’s Women Ready to Tame the Island

This year’s Kona 2025 Triathlon sees Canyon field a formidable trio, each with their own story to write in the lava fields.

Leading the charge is Laura Philipp (GER), the defending world champion. She’s been a metronome of consistency and is once again among the favourites to keep the crown. Hot on her heels is Kat Matthews (GBR), who’s enjoyed a stellar 2025 season and arrives in Hawaii determined to go one better than last year’s runner-up finish in Nice. Making her Kona debut is Marjolaine Pierre (FRA), the rising star ready to test herself against the world’s best in her first-ever Ironman on the sport’s most iconic stage.

For the bike leg, Canyon’s athletes will be astride the Speedmax CFR — a machine designed to laugh in the face of crosswinds. Developed alongside elite triathletes and fine-tuned in the wind tunnel, the Speedmax CFR is a masterclass in aerodynamic precision.

In the gusts that rip across Queen K Highway, this bike stays composed. Its integrated nutrition and hydration systems keep riders locked in their aero positions while refuelling, and every inch of its frame is engineered to save watts. It’s not just a bike; it’s total control on two wheels.

“From the climbs to the coastline, Canyon athletes are ready to take on Kona – equipped with the Speedmax CFR, the ultimate machine for aerodynamic efficiency and speed without compromise.”

Expect Laura, Kat, and Marjolaine to put the bike’s engineering through its paces when the race reaches its critical middle section — where the crosswinds turn ambitions into either podium charges or broken dreams.

Canyon Brings the Spirit of Kona to Life

Kona isn’t just a race. It’s a week-long festival of triathlon, and Canyon is once again planting itself at the heart of it. From October 7–10, Island Lava Java on Aliʻi Drive becomes the Canyon basecamp — a buzzing hub for athletes, media, and fans alike.

Each morning kicks off with group runs, followed by expert race bike servicing for competitors. There are coffee chats with stars like Kat Matthews and Jan Frodeno, live shows, trivia at sunset with Olympic champion Gwen Jorgensen, and plenty of opportunities for fans to soak up pre-race energy alongside some of the biggest names in the sport.
