Larissa Iapichino produced the best jump of her young career to win the women’s long jump at the Diamond League event in Monaco on Friday as Karsten Warholm clocked the second-best time of his career and Finland’s Wilma Murto won in London on Sunday.
Italian long jump phenomenon Iapichino claimed another victory after a career-best jump of 6.95m saw her defeat American Tara Davis-Woodhall (6.88m) and Serbian veteran Ivana Vuleta (6.86m).
Warholm triumphed in the men’s 400m hurdles with a world-leading time of 46.51s – the second-fastest of his career – leaving Brazilian Alison dos Santos in second and American CJ Allen in third.
The Norwegian started fast in lane seven with dos Santos keeping pace early on, only to fade as Warholm clocked his second-best time following his world record time of 45.94s in the 2021 Olympic final at Tokyo.
Warholm, 27, said: “This is nice timing as the World Championships are just around the corner. Seeing that things are still working and I can go faster and faster every time, that means a lot.”
Swedish pole vault star Armand Duplantis suffered a rare defeat as American Christopher Nilsen cleared 5.92m to win with Duplantis fourth on 5.72m as American Will Claye finished down the order in seventh in the men’s triple jump following a jump of 16.21m.
Sunday’s Diamond League meeting in London saw Finnish pole vaulter Murto win with a season’s best as she got over 4.71m and then 4.80m at her second attempts to edge out American Katie Moon.
Qatari Mutaz Essa Barshim engaged in a fun duel with American JuVaughn Harrison in the London men’s high jump as Harrison cleared 2.35m to win and Barshim failed in his only attempt at the 2.37m height.
