England Women Win Opening IT20 In Antigua

England Women celebrate at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua

England Women have taken a 1-0 lead in the T20I series against the West Indies in Antigua.

Another successful toss saw a change up for the England side choosing to bowl first, with Player of the Match, Lauren Bell (3-26) and Katherine Brunt (1-20) setting the tone.

West Indies batters struggled against the tourists bowling attack finishing their 20 overs with 105/7.

Danni Wyatt flourished with the bat hitting a rapid 59 not out, helped along the way by Sophia Dunkley (25) and Lauren Winfield-Hill (15).

England Batter, Danni Wyatt, said: “We wanted to start the T20 series with a bang and Lauren Bell and Katherine Brunt really set the tone there with the ball.

The girl’s bowled exceptionally well under the lights, we spoke about playing with intent, being brave and entertaining and that’s what we did with the bat as well.

“We’re really excited to get to Barbados! Obviously, we’ve loved our time here in Antigua, being on the same pitch for all four games made it a little difficult to bat on out there but we found a way and it’s all about picking the bowlers you want to take down and just having good intent as well as backing yourself and that’s what we did tonight.”
