Varicose veins are sometimes accompanied by pain and discomfort. Because of this, a lot of those who have it feel discouraged and less motivated to start any exercise.
However, it bears reminding that being inactive for too long can worsen the appearance of varicose veins.
So no matter how demotivated you are, it is highly advisable to do at least a light or simple exercise every day. Doing this would not only improve your varicose veins but would also have a positive impact on your overall health.
With that said, we have listed a few light exercises that every person with varicose veins should do.
One of the best light exercises that you can do every day is walking. It is sustainable because it is simple enough to accomplish and you can do it any time of the day.
But, remember to keep it at a minimum and avoid overdoing it. Because as much as exercise is great for your varicose veins, overstraining or spreading yourself too thin during workouts can have a drawback as well.
So to get the best out of this workout, try to keep it at a 30 to 45 minutes max. This way, your body would not be too tired and you can easily sustain it in the long run.
If you are feeling lazy or just looking for a simple at-home routine, then you should definitely incorporate leg lifts in your regular workout routine.
You do not have to get out of the house or purchase any fancy gym equipment with this workout.
Here is a quick overview of what a leg lift is like according to the New York Times:
Step 1: Lie on your back with your legs together
Step 2: Without your bending legs, straighten and lift your legs until your butt comes off the floor
Step 3: Slowly lower your legs till they are just hovering above the floor. Sustain this position for a few seconds
Step 4: Straighten and raise your legs again.
Step 5: Repeat
This exercise is perfect for those who prefer to go outdoors when doing their regular exercise.
Just like walking, bicycling also improves the circulation in your legs. This, in turn, prevents the worsening of your varicose veins.
But, as with any successful workout for varicose veins, the key to this type of exercise is in moderation.
Given that this is only meant to be a low-impact workout, cycling long distances is not ideal. Doing this can strain your leg muscles, causing your varicose veins to swell or look even worse.
Ideally, a 20 to 30-minute bike ride is enough to keep you active. You can do this three to four times a week.
How to Permanently Remove Varicose Veins
Keep in mind that even though these exercises help prevent the worsening of your varicose vein, it is still not a magic bullet that can permanently remove your varicose veins. Exercise is just one of the preventive measures when treating varicose veins.
The most effective way to remove varicose veins permanently is through treatments or surgeries.
Luckily, these treatments are now much more accessible. Since this is now so common among adults, there are now varicose veins clinic located in Dallas, LA, Santa Fe, New York, or whichever city you live in.
You can simply visit any vein clinic and a specialist would then recommend a treatment or surgery that is most suitable for you.
However, it is still worth noting that even though you manage to permanently remove your varicose veins, doing these light impact exercises is still important.
Because at the end of the day, these exercises help improve the blood flow in your legs, making you less prone to develop varicose veins again.
