The Coolest Job on Earth: Marathon Tours & Travel Offers One Adventurer the Chance of a Lifetime in Antarctica

MTT Polar Plunge

By any measure, The Coolest Job on Earth might just live up to its name. Marathon Tours & Travel, the global leader in running travel experiences, has announced a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that’s equal parts adventure, endurance, and storytelling — and it all takes place on the iciest continent on the planet.

The campaign invites runners, explorers, and content creators from around the world to apply for The Coolest Job on Earth — a chance to travel to King George Island in March 2026 and work behind the scenes at the world-famous Antarctica Marathon®.

The chosen candidate will join the Marathon Tours & Travel crew on-site, capturing the raw emotion, grit, and camaraderie of one of the planet’s most extreme running events.

It’s not a cushy desk job. You’ll need a camera in one hand, a sense of humour in the other, and the willingness to run a half or full marathon on ice, snow, and sheer determination.

“This is no ordinary job application,” the organisers explain. “Instead of simply submitting a form, applicants will be challenged to ‘show, not just tell’ the team why they deserve the role.” Entrants must answer the question: “Why should you be chosen for the Coolest Job on Earth?” — and do so creatively on Instagram. The more original, the better.

Whether you’re an aspiring filmmaker, a social media storyteller, or just someone who knows how to turn a frosty morning jog into poetry, this is your stage.

Applicants are encouraged to show their spirit — maybe that means braving a cold-water swim, narrating their morning run like Attenborough, or sharing their most inspiring personal challenge. Whatever the approach, the aim is simple: prove you’ve got the creativity, stamina, and spark to earn a spot on the ice.

A judging panel will decide who’s worthy of donning the Antarctica Marathon® parka, including Jeff Adams, President of Marathon Tours & Travel; Nick Busca, journalist and 2025 Antarctica Marathon® participant who documented his experience for National Geographic; and travel journalist and seasoned marathoner Stacey Leasca.

MTT Race Day 2025

“The Antarctica Marathon® is a truly life-changing event — and I speak from experience, having been part of it many times myself,” said Adams. “Given the remote and extraordinary location of the event, only a small number of runners have the chance to take part each year and this makes this an exceptionally rare and exciting opportunity for someone to join us behind the scenes. I can’t wait to see the creativity in the entries and be part of selecting the winner.”

Beyond finding one exceptional adventurer, The Coolest Job on Earth is also about shining a light on the spirit of the Antarctica Marathon® itself — a race that blends endurance sport with environmental purpose. Through its partnership with Oceanites, the event supports scientific and conservation efforts to protect Antarctica’s fragile ecosystem.

For anyone bold enough to apply, the process is refreshingly simple:

  • Create an Instagram post answering “Why should you be chosen for the Coolest Job on Earth?”
  • Tag @antarctica_marathon and @marathontours using the hashtag #CoolestJobOnEarth.
  • Post before Sunday, 30th November 2025 (23:59 EST) for your chance to win.

Entries open Saturday, 25th October 2025 (10:00 am EST).

So, if you’ve ever dreamed of running where penguins outnumber people and glaciers frame your finish line — this might just be your calling.
