At this point, what else can we say about Lionel Messi?

The records keep coming, but somehow he continues to make the impossible look completely normal, all in his own unique way.

At 39 this week, Messi is producing yet another remarkable World Cup campaign, scoring five goals in his opening two games and once again becoming the heartbeat of Argentina’s dream of lifting the trophy once more.

Greatness isn’t about perfection; it’s about resilience.

And a massive thanks to Charlotte Daly, who was lucky to be there in the USA, capturing the moment first-hand. Fans were given a brilliant glimpse of history being recorded as it happened. Her footage on @charlottedaaly caught the scale of the occasion perfectly: Messi, Argentina, and another night that felt less like a football match and more like a chapter being added to the sport’s scripture.

Messi never hides when things don’t go his way. Even after missing from the penalty spot against Austria in Argentina’s second game of the tournament, there was no sign of frustration or panic, only complete belief in his own ability.

He responded in the only way he knows how: by stepping up and delivering when his team needed him most.

His two goals secured a comfortable 2-0 victory, and in the process, saw him become the all-time leading goalscorer in World Cup history, with 18 – another staggering achievement for a player who continues to redefine greatness.

Messi is quite simply in a world of his own. He is one of one.

What separates him from every other player isn’t just the goals he scores, it’s the way he sees the game.

His football brain is unlike anything we’ve ever witnessed before. He sees passes before they exist, identifies space before anyone else and always seems to know exactly where the next opportunity will appear.

His movement is effortless, his decision-making is outstanding and, no matter how many defenders surround him, there is always a feeling that he will create something special.

But perhaps what makes Messi even more remarkable is the way he has conducted himself throughout his career.

There has never been an ego, only humility, leadership and a determination to let his football do the talking.

Even days away from his 39th birthday, his football brain remains untouchable.

This Argentina side is also built entirely around him.

There was a perfect example for one of his goals when Thiago Almada deliberately allowed the ball to run through his legs, knowing Messi was arriving in a better position.

That’s the trust he inspires.

His teammates know that if Messi has space, something special will happen.

Perhaps that’s why he has become so universally loved. There is no ego, no drama and no controversy. Just excellence, humility and genius, year after year after year.

The internet is once again obsessed with Messi, and rightly so!

We are no longer debating him.
We are simply appreciating him.

Football belongs to one man.

The GOAT – Lionel Messi.
