HYROX has unveiled the next wave of its 2026/27 global race calendar, with 107 race weekends planned across six continents and new host cities including San Diego, Portland, Bari and Nagoya.

Running from January to June 2027, the programme is expected to attract more than two million athletes before the season reaches its conclusion at the HYROX World Championships in Hong Kong.

Fitness racing, it appears, is no longer content merely to visit a city for the weekend. In selected markets, it is beginning to unpack its bags, inspect the minibar and settle in for as long as ten days.

The expanded residencies are intended to meet growing athlete demand, with the familiar one- or two-day event format developing into something considerably larger in the busiest locations. It is a striking indication of scale for a sport whose appeal rests partly on its standardised competitive format and the opportunity for recreational athletes to enter the same arena as the sharper end of the field.

More Than Two Million Athletes Expected to Race

HYROX expects more than two million athletes to compete during the 2026/27 season across 107 race weekends.

That projection follows a 2025/26 campaign in which more than 1.5 million athletes took part worldwide across over 200 days of racing. The next calendar therefore represents more than a collection of new dates. It is an attempt to build enough capacity for a participation base that continues to expand across several established and emerging markets.

Extended events of up to ten days are the clearest response. They also alter the character of a race weekend. A competition occupying a venue for more than a week becomes less of a passing attraction and more of a temporary sporting residency, with a larger window for athletes, supporters and different competition categories.

There are easier administrative exercises. Organising several million lunges would probably be one of them.

San Diego, Portland, Bari and Nagoya Join the Map

The latest calendar brings HYROX back to established destinations while introducing events in San Diego, Portland, Bari and Nagoya.

Those additions extend the championship’s footprint in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, complementing returning locations including Amsterdam, Beijing, Brisbane and Hong Kong.

The geographic spread matters because accessibility is central to participation sport. An athlete may be perfectly willing to drag a sled across a hall, but asking them to cross several time zones before doing it presents a slightly different endurance test.

Adding host cities gives competitors more opportunities to select races that fit their location and season. It also provides earlier visibility for those planning travel, training blocks and multiple appearances during the year.

A Calendar Built for Athletes to Plan Ahead

Ticket sales for each region are due to begin from the end of July, giving athletes advance notice of the first half of the 2027 schedule.

Additional events may also be announced later in the 2026/27 season as the international programme develops.

Christian Toetzke, Co-Founder of HYROX, said: “Every new season demonstrates just how quickly HYROX is growing. With more than two million athletes expected to race this season and over 100 race weekends across six continents, we’re seeing unprecedented global demand for fitness racing.

We’re excited to return to many of our iconic destinations while welcoming new host cities, giving athletes even more opportunities to compete and plan their season. This is another important milestone in our mission to make fitness racing more accessible to communities around the world.”

The ability to plan well in advance is particularly relevant for athletes building a season around more than one race. Registration is only one part of the calculation. Training cycles, recovery, travel and accommodation all become more manageable when the calendar arrives before the diary has been comprehensively mugged by everything else.

HYROX Youngstars Extends the Competitive Pathway

Selected events will also feature HYROX Youngstars competitions as the youth format continues its expansion into North America during the 2026/27 season.

Youth participation gives the wider calendar another dimension. It broadens the competitive pathway beyond the adult race categories and places younger athletes inside the same growing international ecosystem.

The season will culminate in June 2027 with the HYROX World Championships in Hong Kong. That finale gives the calendar a natural destination and places one of the sport’s most established host cities at the end of an increasingly international campaign.

Fitness Racing Enters Its Residency Era

The most revealing feature of the announcement is not simply the number of cities or weekends. It is the length of time HYROX now expects to occupy selected venues.

A ten-day event reflects demand of a different order from a conventional weekend competition. It suggests that the challenge is no longer persuading athletes to enter, but creating sufficient room for them once they do.

With more than two million competitors expected, new cities joining the circuit and Hong Kong waiting at the far end of the season, HYROX is building something larger than a crowded race diary. It is constructing a global competitive calendar with enough scale to accommodate a sport that has developed the rather inconvenient habit of continuing to grow.
