adidas and Patrick Mahomes Announce Second Team Mahomes NIL Cohort at Texas Tech

Patrick Mahomes doesn’t do subtle, and he certainly didn’t start now. The Texas Tech legend swept back into Lubbock with adidas at his side to unveil the second class of Team Mahomes — an NIL crew of Red Raider standouts — while debuting the new “Too Cold” uniform stamped with his unmistakable Gladiator logo. It was a day that felt equal parts high school reunion, fashion show, and a reminder that Mahomes still moves the needle in West Texas like nobody else.

Eight years into his partnership with adidas, Patrick Mahomes is doubling down on the idea that the next generation of college athletes deserve more than a pat on the back. He’s giving them a platform, a brand, and a real chance to shape their future beyond the stats sheet. Texas Tech’s switch to adidas last year lit the spark; Mahomes just poured petrol on it.

“Texas Tech will always be home for me, so I’m proud to give back to the school and community who helped shape me on and off the field,” said Patrick Mahomes. “As the partnership with adidas continues to evolve and expand, we’re redefining not just the future of Red Raider sports, but college athletics more widely.”

The latest Team Mahomes roster reads like a Red Raider highlight reel. Returning stars NiJaree Canady (Softball) and Sam Courtwright (Soccer) are joined by the rising trio of Behren Morton (Football), Christian Anderson (Men’s Basketball), and Malachi Snow (Track). They met Mahomes earlier in the day — a casual moment for him, a life marker for any college athlete — and they’ll be recognised on-field during the game.

And adidas isn’t shy about what this partnership represents.

“Team Mahomes is the result of a unique partnership between adidas and Patrick Mahomes that’s elevating Texas Tech athletics, shaping the future of college sports and building on a lasting legacy for Mahomes in Lubbock and beyond,” said Chris McGuire, Vice President of Sports Marketing, adidas North America.

“NiJaree, Behren, Malachi, Christian, and Sam are some of the nation’s most impressive student-athletes, making them perfect additions to Team Mahomes and the adidas family.”

But the headline wasn’t just the names — it was the threads. Mahomes’ second Gladiator-stamped uniform, the ice-white “Too Cold” kit, made its on-field debut during Tech’s stripe-out. Athlete-branded uniforms are still rare territory, yet adidas clearly sees Mahomes as the kind of figure who can bend the trend lines. Fans don’t have to settle for envy either; the uniform is already up for grabs at adidas.com.

Kirby Hocutt, the man running the athletics ship, didn’t mince words. “Patrick Mahomes’ impact on Texas Tech has been immeasurable. His ongoing investment in our athletes, notably through Team Mahomes, showcases his and adidas’ belief in and commitment to the future of Texas Tech athletics,” said Kirby Hocutt, Texas Tech Athletics Director. “It’s always great to have Patrick on campus, and we look forward to continuing to work together in what’s a really unique and special relationship with adidas.”

It’s clear what’s happening in Lubbock. A franchise quarterback is building something that outlives trophies, and an apparel giant is wagering big on the power of athlete-led brands. Tech fans get better athletes, better uniforms, and a sense that their school is very much part of the future.

Mahomes? He gets to keep shaping the place that shaped him — and he’s doing it with the same confidence he shows on fourth-and-long.
