Red Dragon has launched its first-ever Switch Points range, a major step in darts customisation that brings tour-spec setup flexibility closer to ordinary players who fancy tinkering with their darts without needing a workshop, a prayer mat and the patience of a watchmaker.
The new interchangeable point system allows players to change the length, style and grip of their dart points quickly, depending on the dartboard, throwing conditions or personal preference. In a sport where a millimetre can be the difference between a swaggering 180 and a muttered apology to the carpet, that matters.
A Bigger Move Than A New Paint Job
This is not merely a few barrels with fresh cosmetics and a dramatic name. Red Dragon is positioning Switch Point as the biggest evolution of its product range to date, building the technology into hero player darts and performance darts.
The idea is simple enough: players can adapt their setup more easily, moving closer to the kind of fine-tuned equipment used by professionals on stage. It gives club players, county players and ambitious home throwers more control over how their darts enter the board, sit in the treble bed and respond to changing conditions.
Just as significantly, the new Red Dragon barrels are universally compatible with wider interchangeable point systems, including Swiss Points and Quick Points. That opens the door to more flexible experimentation, rather than leaving players locked into one narrow ecosystem.
Luke Humphries, Jonny Clayton And Tour-Spec Influence
The launch is led by four tour-spec releases featuring some of Red Dragon’s biggest names: Luke Humphries, Jonny Clayton, Gian van Veen and Gerwyn Price.
The TX1 Pioneer SP has been developed with World Champion Luke Humphries. Its torpedo shape places the weight forward, designed to encourage a smooth, consistent release. The TX1 is already one of the best-selling player darts in the Red Dragon range, so giving it Switch Point technology feels less like a gamble and more like fitting a racehorse with sharper shoes.
Jonny Clayton’s Hiraeth SP is co-designed around his exact tour setup. Inspired by Welsh landscapes, it features a raw, textured barrel unlike anything else in the current range. It sounds earthy, tactile and unmistakably Clayton — neat, clever, and probably more dangerous than it first looks.
Gerwyn Price’s Blue Original SP brings the “Iceman” identity into the Switch Points line, with a Modified Razor Edge grip and blue colourway inspired by his tour-level setup. Subtle? Not particularly. But then Price has never exactly played darts like a man trying to blend into wallpaper.
Gian van Veen’s GVV Tour Edition SP is built for a fast, aggressive throw. At 21g, it is the lighter option in the tour-spec quartet and features a dynamic diamond-coated grip, along with Silver Groove and Micro Ring technology.
All four tour-spec models are crafted from 90% tungsten, a familiar hallmark of serious darts because it allows for slimmer barrels while retaining weight and balance.
Performance Darts Join The Switch Point Line-Up
Alongside the player models, Red Dragon has also introduced three performance releases: Amp Torpedo SP, Ascend and Recon.
The Amp Torpedo SP comes with a distinctive grip pattern and black-and-blue finish, designed to stand out without needing to behave like a neon sign in a pub window.
Ascend is presented as the cleaner, premium option in the core range, while Recon broadens the choice further by offering two barrel shapes: parallel and torpedo. That gives players more room to match the dart to their grip preference rather than adjusting their throw to suit the barrel.
That is the practical heart of this launch. Switch Point is not just about changing points for the sake of fiddling. It is about giving players more ways to build a setup around how they actually throw.
Why Switch Points Matter For Everyday Players
Professional darts can appear brutally simple from the sofa. Pick up dart. Throw dart. Look annoyed. Repeat.
But players know the reality is rather more delicate. Point length can affect how darts stack in the board. Grip can influence entry angle. Barrel shape changes how the dart sits in the hand. Weight distribution can alter release timing. A setup that feels perfect on one board may feel oddly uncooperative on another.
Red Dragon’s Switch Points range is designed to make those adjustments easier and more accessible. Instead of committing to a single fixed setup, players can experiment with point length, grip style and board interaction in a more controlled way.
Tom Brown, CEO of Nodor International, the parent company of Red Dragon, said about the launch: “We’re always focused on pushing performance boundaries while making professional-level equipment more accessible. With the launch of Red Dragon’s Switch Points range, we’re bringing customisable tour-spec setups closer to players than ever before.
“This innovation gives players the flexibility and precision typically reserved for elite professionals, empowering them to fine-tune their setup with confidence and consistency. It’s a significant step forward in helping every player, at every level, elevate their game.”
Red Dragon Makes Customisation The Story
The smartest part of this launch is that Red Dragon is not simply selling new darts. It is selling adjustability — and in modern sport, adjustability has become its own language.
Golfers tweak shafts, lofts and lies. Cyclists obsess over saddle height and tyre pressure. Runners rotate shoes depending on the session. Darts players, with no less seriousness and occasionally more superstition, care deeply about the exact feel of the weapon in their hand.
By building Switch Point technology around player-inspired models and core performance darts, Red Dragon is making that level of customisation feel less like a professional secret and more like standard equipment for anyone serious about improving.

For a sport built on repetition, rhythm and nerve, this is a tidy little revolution: the same throw, perhaps, but with far more room to make the dart your own.
