Named Indian Ocean’s Best Golf Hotel at the 2026 World Golf Awards, this Mauritius resort combines championship golf with beachfront relaxation, spa treatments and a rather appealing opportunity to switch off.

A golf holiday can become a surprisingly demanding exercise in organisation. Early tee times, long rounds, ambitious plans to squeeze in another 18 holes and, somewhere towards the bottom of the itinerary, the vague intention to actually relax.

There is nothing wrong with making the most of your time on the course. But a holiday should probably involve more than checking the next day’s starting time.

At Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort in Mauritius, the idea is to give golfers plenty to occupy them on the fairways while leaving room for the rather less competitive business of unwinding afterwards.

And the hotel has a new accolade to its name, having been recognised as Indian Ocean’s Best Golf Hotel at the 2026 World Golf Awards.

Located in Bel Ombre, the five-star beachfront resort combines access to two championship golf courses with dining, spa and wellness experiences, making it an option for travellers who want their sporting holiday to include a little downtime.

Two Courses for Golfers Who Like a Change of Scenery

La Reserve Golf Course

The resort’s golfing appeal centres on two distinctly different courses at Heritage Golf Club.

La Réserve Golf Links sits beside a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and is described by Heritage as the Indian Ocean’s only contemporary links course.

Its reputation has been building internationally. According to the resort, American golf publication Golfweek has ranked La Réserve among its Top 30 International Courses outside the United States, while the course received the World’s Best New Golf Course award at the 2024 World Golf Awards.

Then there is Le Château Golf Course, a parkland layout set within the landscaped grounds of a 19th-century château.

Where La Réserve offers a contemporary links-style setting, Le Château provides an altogether different backdrop for a round.

For golfers travelling that far from home, having two contrasting championship courses available is a welcome prospect. Variety matters, particularly when a golf holiday involves several days of playing.

When the Golf Clubs Go Away

Of course, even enthusiastic golfers eventually reach the point where another round is not necessarily the answer.

Heritage Le Telfair is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, with beachfront accommodation, dining and spa facilities forming part of its wider hospitality offering.

One treatment aimed specifically at its golfing guests is the Heritage Signature Golf Massage, described as a post-round experience designed to help players relax and unwind.

It is a fitting addition to a resort where golf plays such a central role.

But the broader appeal lies in having somewhere to spend time away from the course. Whether that means enjoying a meal, booking a spa treatment or simply taking advantage of the beachfront setting, the holiday need not be dictated entirely by the scorecard.

For visitors travelling with someone less interested in golf, that variety may be particularly relevant, although it is worth checking the facilities and activities available under individual bookings.

A Hotel Award, With Environmental Recognition for Its Courses

The latest World Golf Awards honour recognises Heritage Le Telfair’s golf hospitality, rather than serving as an independent assessment of the health or wellness benefits of its facilities.

The wider Heritage golf operation has also received environmental recognition.

According to the resort, La Réserve became the first golf course development in the African region to achieve GEO Certified® Development Status, reflecting environmental considerations in its development.

Le Château Golf Course also holds GEO Certified® status.

Those are specific golf-sector certifications rather than a blanket guarantee of environmental sustainability, but they add another dimension to the destination’s story.

Raoul Maurel, Chief Operations Officer at Heritage Resorts & Golf, credited the people behind the hotel’s latest award.

“Receiving the title of Indian Ocean’s Best Golf Hotel from the World Golf Awards is a true testament to the dedication of our entire team.”

For visitors, the recognition provides another reason to consider Heritage Le Telfair when researching a Mauritius holiday. Practical details still matter, of course, including how many rounds a package covers, whether spa treatments cost extra and how tee times are arranged.

After all, the idea of combining an active holiday with a chance to unwind is appealing enough without finding that your entire break has been booked in 18-hole instalments.
