If your name’s Kat or Sue, Banana Tree has just turned you into royalty. The award-winning Pan-Asian restaurant is marking National Katsu Day with a free feast for anyone blessed—or cursed, depending on your family gatherings—with a variation of those names.
From September 22 to 25, Banana Tree will hand over complimentary Katsu dishes worth up to £16.75 to qualifying diners who show proof of name and a free Big Flavour Club membership. No booking, no fuss—just walk in, flash your ID, and let the curry do the talking.
This is no half-hearted gimmick either. The menu lineup is as bold as it is belly-filling. The classic Katsu Curry (£16.45) remains the star player, all golden crisp coating, silky curry sauce, and enough fluffy rice to put a smile on your carb-loving face.
For those who want something a little more daring, the Katsu Burger (£16.75) arrives stacked with crispy chicken or a veggie fillet, spicy mayo, puffed noodle crunch, and a side of Salt n’ Pepper Chilli Chips. Then there’s the newcomer: Katsu Carbonara (£16.75), a culinary mash-up that marries laksa sauce with Parmigiano, noodles, sesame, and crispy onions. It sounds bonkers, but it’s unapologetically Banana Tree.
A spokesperson for the chain put it plainly: “At Banana Tree, we celebrate bold flavour in everything we do, and we love a mash-up. Our Katsu range is one of our proudest creations, so National Katsu Day felt like the perfect moment to have some fun with our fans – and who better to celebrate than all the Kat(s) and Sue(s) out there? From curry to carbonara, this is Katsu like you’ve never tasted it before.”
For anyone wondering where the line gets drawn—Katarina? Suzanne with a ‘z’?—Banana Tree will post the full qualifying roll call on Instagram, with final judgment left to its so-called “independent adjudicator” (translation: the social media exec).
Normally, these dishes would dent your wallet to the tune of £16.45 to £16.75. For one week in September, they’re free—if you’ve got the right name.
For everyone else, National Katsu Day is still a solid excuse to dig into one of the most comforting dishes ever to hit a plate.
