Running On Plants

Get ready, set, go and join Running on Plants this June for a month-long campaign to encourage both amateur and professional athletes to adopt a whole food plant-based diet as part of their training and improve their health and performance.

Launched by Tom Pickering, a lifelong runner and documentary filmmaker, and supported by Plant-Based Health Professionals, Running on Plants was inspired by the record-breaking athletes Tom interviewed while filming ‘I Could Never Go Vegan’.

Whether you’re new to running, ready to take the next steps after doing the couch to 5k, or are an ultra-runner, find evidence-based advice, motivational tips, practical meal plans and recipes all in one place.

For inspiration, information and motivation, watch Tom’s explainer video.

“Running on Plants will appeal to anyone interested in enhancing their running performance or overall health and fitness.” says founder Tom.

Pledge to run to receive a starter pack, followed by weekly support throughout the month of June, from people from all walks of life; participants include Olympian cyclist Dotsie Bausch, amateur ultra-runner Mike Coppock, who breaks world records on the side of his day job as a teacher, and Paul Youdan 85-year-old ultra-athlete.

“There is now ample scientific evidence that not only is a plant-based diet good for your health, it can also support you to thrive and achieve optimal athletic performance.

“This way of eating has the co-benefits of reducing your carbon footprint and being kinder to our fellow animals.” says Dr Shireen Kassam, Founder of Plant-Based Health Professionals UK.

WHAT: Running On Plants – a 30-day challenge to take control of your health by harnessing the power of whole plant foods and an active lifestyle.

Log a 5k at the start of the month as a benchmark, then follow practical advice and guidance, a full training plan[1], along with nutritional tips and recipes. After a full month of completely free support and resources, log a second 5k and celebrate your new improved time.
