With the trend continuing to grow into an already hot summer, PureGym has revealed the most popular songs that accompany the viral TikTok exercise, the Hot Girl Walk.
The trend, originally made viral on the social media platform TikTok by the creator Mia Lind, started during the pandemic and took off as an exercise format that many could relate to – particularly during nationwide lockdowns.
Now some two years on, videos with the hashtag accompanying the trend have received a huge 323.3 million views on TikTok, and continues to grow in notoriety.
Having now evolved into a format that many take to the treadmill in their gym routines, PureGym set out to discover which songs and artists get us the most pumped to set off on the walking phenomenon that’s said to be deemed good for both your physical and mental health.
The walk itself is supposed to last for at least an hour, and should be combined with uplifting podcasts or music, and positive thinking.
Analysing over 63,000 tracks on Spotify which have been added to over 900 playlists titles “hot girl walk”, the research revealed that Lizzo’s 2022 hit About Damn Time is the song added most frequently, beating out other walk-ready hits like Olivia Rodrigo’s good 4 u and When I Grow Up by the Pussycat Dolls. The song, which is currently the most-heard song on U.S. radio, exploded even further in popularity when the pop queen herself joined in a TikTok dance trend where creator Jaeden Gomez created a routine to the song’s second verse.
Outside of Lizzo taking the crown for the number one song, the top 10 was dominated by rapper Doja Cat, who provided a massive 50% of the top ranking songs on her own. The rankings weren’t without some pop nostalgia though, with the likes of Maneater by Nelly Furtado and Gimme More by Britney Spears also featuring.

Stephen Rowe, Chief Marketing Officer of PureGym says: “We all know just how important music is in aiding our workouts and helping to motivate us both to finish them and feel good while doing it.
We’ve curated playlists before containing the most popular gym songs, but we wanted to find out what people were listening to while they jumped into this new trend and strutted their way down high streets, or on treadmills.
This new viral exercise trend is open to gym members and non-members alike, no matter what kind of workout you want to do – and for those who prefer walking to get their endorphin rush, it allows them to exercise in a way that feels good to them. We hope our findings of the top 25 songs provides the ultimate soundtrack for it!”
Recently, PureGym also revealed that listening to music while exercising can actually help to make you stronger, showing just how essential music is to any hot girl walk.
