Burnham Beeches Hotel & Spa makes a striking first impression, its white-stucco Georgian façade and ten acres of manicured grounds promising heritage, tranquillity and an easy escape from London. Yet, while its appearance sets high expectations, the reality of a weekend stay can leave some guests departing with more stress than serenity.
Built in 1727 and refreshed for 2025 without losing its period character, it remains a property of undeniable charm—but one where certain aspects of the guest experience don’t always match the grandeur of its setting.
Its location is a major asset: just five minutes from Burnham station on the Elizabeth line, around 12 miles from Heathrow, and a short drive to Windsor, Cliveden, Dorney Lake and Legoland.
Free on-site parking makes it an easy base for both couples looking for a city break and families seeking attractions nearby. The nature reserve next door offers protected beech avenues perfect for walking, so packing good shoes is a must.
Rooms
The 80 or so rooms are split between the original house and a newer wing. The Clifton suite is their showstopper. Then there is The Beech Signature Suite, Canopy Suites, Oak Character rooms, Hive family rooms, Beech Rooms, and Nest Double rooms.

Check carefully on booking as the first room we were given was a Nest double room, which I have to say I was not impressed with for the price, It was not very big, and the view from the window was an expanse of flat roof. It was also very warm and did not have air conditioning just a fan that blew the heat around the room.
Food & Drink
Breakfast is served in Brasserie 1727, while the Verdure Lounge Bar provides a cosy fireside spot for drinks. The Arden Room caters to private dining or a more formal take on the main menu.
Afternoon tea is a highlight—served daily from noon to 4 pm—with traditional, Prosecco and Champagne options starting from £32.50. Weekends can be busy, so booking ahead is wise.
Spa & Leisure
The SOUL Spa offers Temple Spa treatments alongside an indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and a small gym. While spa days that include afternoon tea or dinner offer good value, the facilities themselves are limited and being charged an extra £5 a day on top of your already booked stay seemed
The pool is small, the gym compact, and the layout awkward—guests must return to the changing rooms to shower before or after using the steam room, sauna and swimming pool. Maintenance issues also need attention; jacuzzi not working and a loose panel in the sauna and exposed screws in the benches made for an unpleasant hot surprise.
The Wedding Factor
One crucial detail prospective guests at Burnham Beeches Hotel & Spa should be aware of is the impact weddings can have on the experience. If your idea of a weekend here involves early nights and quiet mornings, it is essential to confirm in advance whether a wedding or large event is taking place during your stay.
When we booked, we made it clear we were early-to-bed guests, and to their credit, the manager moved us to a quieter side of the hotel upon arrival. However, by the time we returned on Saturday evening, the wedding reception was in full swing and the car park was packed. More concerning was the use of disabled parking bays. Six of these spaces were occupied by vehicles without visible blue badges—a serious issue for guests who rely on them.
In one instance, I approached a man loading equipment into his car in one disabled bay and asked if he was about to leave. He replied that he would be in about an hour or so as he was the wedding entertainment, claiming the hotel had authorised him to park there. (Management later confirmed no such permission had been given).
While the staff throughout our stay were polite and accommodating, the lack of visible parking management during events is a clear oversight.
For disabled guests or those seeking a peaceful spa and wellness break, this can undermine the experience entirely. The advice is simple: phone ahead and ask specifically about weddings or other large functions before you book.
Without that due diligence, you risk trading your weekend of relaxation for a noisy, crowded and, in our case, frustrating experience.
Weddings & Events
The Georgian backdrop and lawns make it a popular venue for celebrations, with capacity for up to 180 guests. While this is great for those tying the knot, it can significantly affect the atmosphere for other guests.
Service
Staff were generally professional and quick to resolve issues, but the lack of proactive communication about large events remains a weakness.
Tips for Booking
- Call ahead to check for weddings or large events.
- Ask for a room away from the function suites if you value quiet.
- Look for packages that include meals or treatments to improve value.
Verdict
Burnham Beeches Hotel & Spa has an enviable location, attractive grounds and a blend of historic character with updated interiors. However, at £130–£270 a night (at the time we stayed) the experience doesn’t always match the price tag.
Did we feel relaxed and refreshed after our two-night stay, definitely not, would we book to stay again, probably not, especially if there is a wedding on, I’m afraid to say.
With better communication, a smoother spa layout, and attention to small maintenance details, it could deliver on its full promise. For now, it’s a pleasant countryside stay—just one where you’ll want to choose your dates and room carefully.
