The National Fitness Day Activity Finder has officially launched, encouraging people across the UK to get moving and join the free events taking place on Wednesday 22 September.

With just a month to go until what is traditionally the most active day of the year, the Activity Finder will be populated with events hosted by fitness and leisure operators, activity providers, sports clubs and community groups in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The day will come hotly after the Olympic Games which brought the country together and the Paralympic Games which opened yesterday.

The theme of the campaign for 2021 is ‘Fitness Unites Us’ and the day is set to bring millions of people together through thousands of inclusive free activities, workouts and events. As well as physical events, there will be a range of online platforms hosting inclusive workouts and offers to ensure everybody can join the fun.

National Fitness Day 2021 is supported by headline partner TRX Training Club SM, which today announces that it will be opening its online platform to everyone free-of-charge for 24 hours, with live workouts scheduled throughout the day.

From Suspension Training® to yoga to bodyweight exercises, there will be live classes hosted all day by world leading TRX® trainers. So whether you prefer to work out early morning time, during your lunch break, or in the evening – the choice is yours.

To help spread the word, people will be encouraged to share what they are up to and how they are getting involved by using the hashtag #FitnessDay on social media.

Schoolchildren will also join the fun, as schools host a synchronised 10@10 – 10 minutes of activity at 10am, either in the classroom, playground or during assembly.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the campaign, which for the past decade has helped millions of people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to find or rediscover a fitness activity they love.

It has grown to become the most active day of the year, when the spotlight falls on the mission of the physical activity sector to encourage people to be active all year round.

This year will be no different, with plans well underway by providers across the sector using the campaign’s message and energy, and all organisations encouraged to register their activities for the Activity Finder here.

People who are keen to try something new should check the Activity Finder over the coming weeks as more events will be added in the run-up to the day.

Huw Edwards, CEO of ukactive, said: “It’s great to see the excitement building across the sector as we get closer to National Fitness Day 2021.

“Throughout the pandemic, we’ve seen so many moving examples of the essential role our sector plays in people’s lives, so this year’s campaign is a wonderful opportunity to bring those stories to the fore.

“National Fitness Day couldn’t happen without the dedication of ukactive members up and down the country, and we are really looking forward to seeing the new ideas and activities inspired by the campaign this year.”

Hattie Jones, lead for National Fitness Day at ukactive, said: “This year, we believe a hybrid model of in-facility, outdoor and online activities will continue to ensure we inspire millions of people to join activities on the day, in a setting and environment most suited to them.”

Brent Leffel, CEO of TRX, said: “With not long to go now until National Fitness Day, we can’t wait to unveil all of the activity we have in store on our TRX Training Club SM digital platform.

Throughout the day – whether it’s getting schools active with the 10 minutes of exercise at 10am initiative, or providing desk workers with a lunch break stretch – there will be workout options for everyone to get involved with!”
