Get ready for an enhanced experience at Vasaloppet Summer Week 2023! The upcoming event will feature an updated course right after the start in Sälen, bringing participants in Cykelvasan Öppet Spår, Cykelvasan 90, Ultravasan 90, and Vasastafetten closer to the iconic first slope and highest point of the Vasaloppet Arena, just like the winter skiers.
Tommy Höglund, Sport Manager at Vasaloppet, expressed his enthusiasm for this development, stating, “The first hill is a classic Vasaloppet landmark, and there has been a desire from us and participants to make this happen. It feels great to be able to present it for this year’s edition of Vasaloppet’s Summer Week.”
Over the years, Vasaloppet has gradually moved away from asphalt roads, focusing on providing a more immersive nature experience. Moving cyclists and runners onto the first slope aligns with this goal.
Tommy Höglund highlighted the new character this change brings to the start of the races, offering participants an exciting challenge and a unique experience tailored to their ambition.
The transition away from asphalt roads also contributes to improved safety for cyclists, as the technical sections of the course will naturally limit speed.
This change is part of a multi-year plan to enhance the Cykelvasan experience, and Vasaloppet aims to continue collaborating with landowners to further refine the route for skiing, cycling, and running.
For runners, the new route allows them to venture into classic Vasaloppet terrain much earlier in the race, adding a fresh element to Ultravasan 90 and the first section of Vasastafetten. Participants will appreciate tackling the Vasaloppet Arena early on, ensuring an unforgettable experience.
To give cyclists a taste of the new course, an on-site event will be held on Thursday, August 10, before the Cykelvasan weekend.
This event offers the chance to compete against Sweden’s elite mountain bikers on Vasaloppet’s renowned first slope, with exciting prizes up for grabs. Keep an eye on vasaloppet.se for program details.
Prepare for an exhilarating journey in Vasaloppet Summer Week 2023, where the updated route will elevate the race experience.
From the start in Berga village, participants will follow the Västerdalälven river, encounter the famous first hill, and continue on a forest road, leading to the picturesque Smågan checkpoint.
Take it easy at the start, find your pace, and relish the breathtaking approach to Smågan.
Don’t miss out on this thrilling event, where nature, challenge, and camaraderie come together to create unforgettable moments.
Get ready to push your limits and embrace the spirit of Vasaloppet Summer Week 2023!
