A group of aspiring young footballers from around the world will have the chance to impress the Arsenal Academy performance staff, after registering performance data with STATSports that simply couldn’t be ignored.

On Tuesday 24th May, the club will now host a training session at Emirates Stadium to monitor the performance of the players.

STATSports, the world’s leading GPS performance technology company and Arsenal FC, launched the STATSports Arsenal FC edition in October last year, which is the exact same technology the first team wears, to measure physical data.

Players using the product have been able to track their progress within the app, by comparing their data with Arsenal Academy players right through to the first team. Those who registered the highest stats have since been monitored by the club.

The pod itself captures stats from the player after every session including total distance, max speeds, high-speed running distance, intensity and fatigue levels. That data is then housed within the individual’s phone so they can track their progress.

Arsenal’s Academy Manager Per Mertesacker, said: “We’re very excited to be at the second phase of our project with STATSports, and to have the opportunity to monitor young players who are registering the best stats.

“Since we launched the STATSports Arsenal FC edition pod last year, our Academy managers, together with STATSports, have kept a close eye on the data and have been hugely impressed with a group of young players, who will now get the chance to showcase their skills at Emirates Stadium.

“This unique opportunity has allowed us to track players all around the world, with some coming from Ireland, as well as a Ukrainian youngster, living in Prague.

“This innovative project reinforces the importance of performance data within football – year on year players’ physical outputs are increasing; they are running further, faster and are more efficient movers than ever before.

This is why it is important that the club are able to not only identify players but develop them, so they’re capable of withstanding the needs of the modern game.”

Sean O Connor; Co-Founder, STATSports, said: “It’s a genuine possibility that on 24th May, together with the club, STATSports may have found the next generation of talent at Arsenal FC.

“As a long-standing client of the club, we’re thrilled to work on this project together – it’s incredible that this revolutionary concept is now giving young people the chance to fulfil their dreams.

“STATSports technology is as essential as shinguards and boots in today’s game and now young, aspiring players everywhere can benefit from our products and support in a player’s journey to become a professional footballer.”

STATSports have been a trusted partner of Arsenal for over a decade – their entire first-team use STATSports every day, including players such as Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Ainsley Maitland-Niles – all of whom have used STATSports since their Hale End Academy days.
