Apes Hill is turning heads in Barbados with its bold spin on sustainable dining, mixing high-end luxury with an unwavering commitment to the environment.
Picture a community where lush greenery meets your plate in record time, setting a new benchmark for organic farming, eco-friendly innovation, and healthy living.
In a world waking up to the real impact of our everyday choices, sustainability has shifted from buzzword to basic expectation.
Across the globe, hotels are rolling out greener initiatives and more mindful practices—yet at Apes Hill, it’s more than a program; it’s our daily rhythm. You’ll feel it in every detail, from how we run the place to the welcome our guests receive.
At the heart of this effort lies a sprawling 60 acres dedicated to organic farming, alongside 40 buzzing beehives and 17 acres of thriving fruit trees.
The goal is refreshingly simple: lessen the environmental impact of every meal, boost the quality of every ingredient, and give back to the local community.
“Our Apes Hill ethos is built on a luxurious, yet sustainable lifestyle, where we infuse responsible practices into our endeavours to benefit our people, our planet and the local community,” explained Ed Paskins, golf course superintendent and sustainability expert.
“Sustainability touches every facet of our resort and community, including our food and beverage offerings. At Apes Hill, the commitment to environmental stewardship and healthy living goes hand in hand, creating a model that inspires our members and our guests.”
This approach means that ingredients are grown mere steps away from the resort’s kitchens, with locally sourced produce supplementing whatever can’t be grown on-site.
By focusing on seasonal availability, chefs ensure that dishes showcase the freshest and most sustainable fare possible.
“Ultimately, we’re on a mission to provide fresh, healthy food while minimising environmental impact,” added Paskins.
“We’ve installed over 40 bee hives across our community, for example, which have provided several yields of organic honey, often used in our ice creams and other desserts at The Noisy Cricket Bar and Restaurant.
Our focus on soil health also aids in our efforts to produce the healthiest crops including breadfruit, bananas, papaya, tomatoes, pineapple, cocoa, limes, mangoes, and a variety of herbs.”
This model not only cuts down on food miles, reducing the distance from farm to plate, but also promotes local partnerships, helping small producers and artisans thrive.
At Apes Hill, the commitment stretches well beyond harvest time. The team is always pushing the envelope with innovative eco-friendly farming techniques, choosing natural pest control over chemicals, and crafting little havens where local biodiversity can truly flourish.
At Apes Hill, community involvement is more than a policy—it’s a warm invitation to connect with the land. Guests and members are welcomed on engaging tours that showcase the organic farming practices and extraordinary ecological work taking place on the property.
These experiences help forge a genuine bond between the land and its produce, inspiring a lifestyle that celebrates both personal well-being and the health of our environment.
In Barbados, Apes Hill is redefining luxury by blending it seamlessly with environmental care. With a dedicated farm-to-fork approach and a steadfast commitment to organic and eco-friendly practices, this hillside retreat not only delights your palate with exceptional cuisine but also offers a fresh, forward-thinking vision for a sustainable future.
