In a major play for both college sports and branding, adidas and Patrick Mahomes have officially signed six standout student-athletes from Texas Tech University to the newly minted “Team Mahomes.”

This group represents the first wave of Mahomes’ NIL initiative in partnership with adidas, aligning the three-time Super Bowl champ’s vision with some of the best up-and-coming athletes in the country.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of a significant 10-year partnership between adidas and Texas Tech, making adidas the go-to brand for all things Red Raiders—from footwear to accessories.

The athletes now wearing the three stripes as part of Team Mahomes include Micah Hudson (Football), NiJaree Canady (Softball), Jasmine Shavers (Basketball), Matthew Comegys (Golf), Sam Courtwright (Soccer), and TJ Pompey (Baseball).

These student-athletes received a warm welcome from Mahomes himself, who surprised them on campus with custom Mahomes gear.

Beyond the swag, these athletes will play a key role in adidas’ marketing efforts, especially around Mahomes’ signature shoe and apparel line.

“The energy around this partnership has been incredible, and this announcement shows just how important this is to me, adidas and Texas Tech,” said Patrick Mahomes.

“adidas has been a collaborative partner from the start, and we worked together to select athletes who are among the best and embody the drive and dedication we’re looking for in a Team Mahomes athlete. We’ve got a lot of great stuff coming up for the Red Raiders – stay tuned for more.”

As if signing six athletes to NIL deals wasn’t enough, Mahomes also took time to visit the Red Raiders football team, where he unveiled some fresh new uniforms set to debut later this fall.

The visit underscores the deepening relationship between adidas, Texas Tech, and Mahomes—relationships that are only getting stronger.

Chris McGuire, Vice President of Sports Marketing at adidas, noted, “Our partnership with Texas Tech – which we announced just a few weeks ago – continues to grow and evolve, and our goal is to make it one of the strongest and most visible in all of college sports.

Our belief is that long-term equity in sport starts with investment, which is why we’re proud to have worked with Patrick in welcoming such an incredible group of student-athletes to the Three Stripes family.”

Mahomes also demonstrated his commitment to Texas Tech in a big way by announcing a significant donation to the university’s athletics department.

This contribution will help wrap up the largest facility investment in the school’s history—the $240 million South End Zone and Dustin R. Womble Football Center project.

Kirby Hocutt, Texas Tech’s Director of Athletics, praised the impact of Mahomes’ involvement: “The creation of Team Mahomes further positions Texas Tech Athletics as a national leader in NIL.

This wouldn’t be possible without a tremendous partner in adidas that believes strongly in investing in our student-athletes under the Patrick Mahomes brand.

In this era of sports, there aren’t many generational athletes like Patrick Mahomes who promote their alma mater so proudly and give back in such a meaningful manner.”

Beyond the six athletes signed today, adidas is extending opportunities to all eligible student-athletes at Texas Tech through their NIL Ambassador Network.

This program allows student-athletes from adidas-partnered Division 1 schools to earn from their Name, Image, and Likeness, with over 12,000 athletes already benefiting from the program nationwide.
