Active IQ Adds The New Level 3 Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprenticeship Standard To Its Portfolio

Active IQ Level 3 Outdoor Activity Instructor Standard

This apprenticeship standard will train individuals how to supervise and guide children and adults in an extensive range of outdoor activities and pastimes including canoeing, sailing, climbing, surfing, cycling, hillwalking, archery, bushcraft, rock pooling, geology, plant identification, habitat and wildlife walks.

The fully supervised training will see learners operate in a range of venues and weather conditions to prepare them for working in the great outdoors.

Active IQ is working with training providers to deliver this training across the UK. The qualification is open to learners aged 16+ and is expected to take 12-18 months to complete.

At the end of their training, when the learners are ready for their End-point assessment, they will undergo a practical test and engage in a professional discussion, alongside which they will be expected to present a portfolio of evidence gathered over the course of their studies.

As well as managing the End-point Assessment, Active IQ provides a wealth of resources and support including:

  • Outdoor Activity Instructor apprentice toolkit
  • Apprentice EPA timeline
  • eLearning materials
  • ‘Preparing for…’ eLearning
  • Teaching resources
  • On-programme checklist
  • Gateway checklist
  • Toolkit video

“We are very excited for this new Level 3 Outdoor Activity Instructor standard which is the first of its kind in our growing portfolio,” says Tad Chapman, Active IQ’s Head of End-Point Assessment.

“As a nation, we were actively encouraged to enjoy the fresh air and engage in outdoor activities during the pandemic,” he says. “We hope this apprenticeship standard will enable instructors to build on people’s interest in venturing outside.

By introducing them to a diverse range of activities, instructors will encourage people to tap into their curiosity, hone their skills and build their confidence by trying new things.

“The Active IQ End-point assessment portfolio now comprises 18 different standards from early years teaching to transport and leisure centre management to outdoor activities,” says Tad.

“When it comes to vocational training there really is something for everyone and we’re pleased to be able to offer this fresh, exciting qualification.”
