What a statement… my body doesn’t do exercise! Well, for some of us that’s true. There are many medical conditions that people have that won’t allow them to push their bodies as much as other people.
I am one of those people.
The frustrating part is I used to be able to… I used to swim a couple of miles a day, play tennis, even do the occasional bit of running… these days I couldn’t even run for a bus.
Don’t get me wrong… I’m fit, my internal organs and my bloodwork says I’m fit…. but I can’t do the majority of sports/exercises that we feature in the magazine.
There are many conditions that stop people from working up a sweat…
I wanted to put together a collection of things that may help some of you that still want to keep yourselves fit, but unfortunately can’t hit the gym like others.
Forget the treadmills, elliptical cycles, rowing machines… the best and safest way for us is using our own body weight. Simple and slow movements that help to keep your joints flexible, and give your muscles a charge….
For those of you that can manage a bit more, I have found a rebounder to be amazing… my joints can no longer handle harsh impact, so using a rebounder allows me to do a simple workout without any impact injuries (look up Jumpga an absolutely phenomenal workout which is low impact) ….
If you are able to, I still find that swimming is an amazing therapy, not only for your body, but for your mind… I can’t go hard at it with front crawl anymore, but a few slow breath stroke lengths can work wonders for you (Kun Aqua is another great exercise to practice in the pool)….
If you are having a bad day, but not so bad that you can’t get out of bed.. go for a walk!
Going for a walk is not only good for your body, but good for your soul. Find a place (even if you have to drive or be driven there) where you can be around nature, breathe good quality air, and be at one with your thoughts…
The fact that you are reading this article means that you have it in you to at least want to try…. trust me, I know it’s hard, and I really do know what pain is, but do you really just want to sit there getting stiffer and stiffer…. please… just try even if you just ask the person next to you to grab you a tin of baked beans and you lift it above your head twice… it’s a start.
Take back control of your body… it is possible!
Good luck! Xx
