With the COVID-19 pandemic causing irrefutable changes to daily life, one of the biggest challenges the UK has faced is the lack of physical activity the general populace can now partake in on a day-to-day basis.
Coupled with the school-closures, this has meant whole families have been forced to self-isolate with limited options for exercise.
To tackle this issue, global group fitness provider Les Mills, has provided over 200 schools across the nation access to its specialist kids-exercise programme, BORN TO MOVE Schools.
Getting the platform up and running in under 7 days following the closures announcement, the partnership has already seen over 5000 school children and their families get direct access to more than 80 specially curated exercise programmes for a variety children’s age groups.
BORN TO MOVE Schools is a virtual, Netflix-style platform, offering fun-filled classes for children. Through the platform, kids are encouraged to use their imagination and activity levels to engage with the videos
Alongside the schools that have access to this platform, Les Mills has also partnered with funding body Sport England to provide a 30-day free trial to its globally recognised on-demand platform, Les Mills On Demand.
The Les Mills On Demand app is has over 800 on-demand workouts that families and individuals can use to stay active, including the BORN TO MOVE program. This means that as well as school children getting their recommended daily activity, parents and the rest of the family can also benefit from getting moving – any time of the day.
“With the Easter break , many parents will worry about the work-life balance coming under pressure whilst kids don’t have schoolwork, but parents still need to complete their own professional work,” says Justine Williams, Global Business Development for BORN TO MOVE™.
“With Les Mills On Demand and BORN TO MOVE, parents have control over when they can press play on a workout for the kids or for the whole family.”
Les Mills, famous for its group exercise classes such as BODYPUMP, BODYCOMBAT and GRIT has been delivering group-workouts backed by science for over 50 years. As fitness-industry juggernauts, the brand has teams of experts globally, creating high-quality content that appeals to a wide range of fitness abilities.
Within the LMOD app and BORN TO MOVE options, Les Mills is providing members of the public of all ages and abilities, a physical-activity lifeline amid the current crisis.
“Our aim is and always has been to make people fall in love with fitness.” Les Mills CEO, Clive Ormerod comments, “Now more than ever, is a chance for communities to get-together, albeit virtually, and appreciate how daily movement can lift your mind and body to a happier place. We hope we’ll have many families joining our expert instructors in their workouts over the duration of this crisis.”
