If you’ve ever thought about pursuing a Pilates Instructor Career, now might be the perfect time to make that leap.
A new global survey of more than 800 Pilates professionals, conducted by Balanced Body, confirms that studios worldwide are struggling to keep up with the growing demand—and they’re actively searching for qualified instructors.
In fact, the research shows 77% of Pilates studios are expanding, 67% regularly sell out classes, and nearly 40% of studio owners say they need more people on board.
These findings reflect a booming interest in Pilates that’s driving the industry to welcome new faces at a rapid pace.
Since 2015, there’s been a 15% increase in new instructors, but employers still report a gap between the number of students keen to sign up and the available teaching staff.
But beyond the numbers, there’s another compelling reason to look at a Pilates Instructor Career: instructors genuinely love their work.
A remarkable 89% strongly agree that they adore their job, and more than three-quarters can’t wait to step into the studio each day.
For many, it’s not just a job but a calling—they’re driven by a passion for Pilates, the desire to make a meaningful difference in others’ lives, and the chance to stay active themselves.
“Now is an ideal time to become a Pilates instructor,” said Joy Puleo, Director of Education, Balanced Body Education.
“This new research underscores the demand for Pilates is higher than ever, and – with the increasing awareness of the importance of the mind-body connection, core strength and flexibility – more and more people are seeking out Pilates as a way to improve their overall health and fitness.
With participation at an all-time high, the demand has never been greater for passionate and enthusiastic industries.
A Flexible and Fulfilling Path
From flexible scheduling to diverse teaching environments, Pilates instructors enjoy a unique sense of freedom. Many choose to work part-time, balancing studio hours with other careers or family life—40% hold a different primary career, and 33% have children at home.
According to the survey, 70% say teaching Pilates complements their parenting responsibilities perfectly.
“Pilates is a career that has allowed me to combine my passion for mind + movement, my love of teaching, and my desire to help others,” says Mychele Sims, an investigator with a federal agency and 20+ year veteran of the criminal legal system who pursued a side hustle and became a certified Pilates instructor and owner of Get2Werk Pilates Studio.
Mychele continues: “Becoming a Pilates instructor ultimately led me to achieve another career goal–owning my own Pilates studio, which I never dreamed possible while juggling two careers.
Now, eight years later, I feel a great sense of pride knowing how many lives we have touched and enhanced through Pilates.
My online studio is growing rapidly, and I am always looking to mentor more dedicated and passionate instructors, particularly as I plan my retirement from the legal system and continue to expand my practice.”
With demand climbing and class waitlists growing, the opportunity to enter this industry has never been brighter. And while the financial and professional benefits are certainly attractive, many instructors say the real reward is seeing their students flourish—improving strength, flexibility, and overall health through Pilates.
