On 17 October 2023, London Sport will be hosting Active LDN, the capital’s largest conference dedicated to helping Londoners live more active lives, in partnership with Decathlon at its flagship store in Surrey Quays.
The event will bring together more than 300 guests to focus on ‘Active Solutions to London’s Challenges’.
As the capital grapples with a number of issues including the child inactivity crisis, increased cost of living, high levels of obesity, poor mental health, loneliness, and climate change, the conference will encourage attendees to think innovatively about how sport and physical activity can be used to combat some of these challenges.
Discounted Early Bird tickets for Active LDN are now available until 15 September and can be purchased for just £45 through this link.
The event will also explore how local authorities, health networks, community clubs and other sector organisations can work collaboratively and explore new opportunities to improve the lives of Londoners.
Attendees can expect an impressive lineup of high-profile keynote speakers to kick off the day, followed by specialised sessions that delve into relevant topics such as place-based approaches and driving effective system change.
The full agenda for the conference can be found here, and key sessions include:
- Investing for an active London: what works?
- The future of green spaces in dense urban environments
- Building collaboration and sustainability into place-based approaches
- Helping young people be active through innovation
- From co-creation to co-production: What does this journey look like?
- Do major events drive participation in community sport?
Emily Robinson, Chief Executive of London Sport, said: “We are delighted to bring the sector together once again to think creatively about effective solutions to help Londoners live longer, healthier and happier lives through physical activity.
Now more than ever, we need to think about the challenges affecting the capital, as London continues to face high levels of inequality and inactivity as a result of the cost-of-living crisis.
By learning from experts, real-life experiences, and successful case studies, I am excited to see how his year’s conference will spark new ideas that we can take forward as a sector to make a real impact for the capital.”
Decathlon’s flagship store in Surrey Quays provides an exciting venue and backdrop for this year’s Active LDN. An entire floor of the Decathlon store will be temporarily adapted to provide guests with the ultimate conference experience, including: breakout areas to host workshops and knowledge sharing; a 300+ plus seated area for plenary sessions; exhibition space for London Sport partners, including our Official Sponsors Exergame, Play Innovation and Sid Lee, to showcase innovative products and ideas to help the sector; and include other sports activities on site including a golf simulator and table tennis.
The event will also conclude with a networking session to allow attendees to share ideas and recap on the event together.
Delphine Mazillier, Social Impact Lead from Decathlon, said: “At Decathlon, our mission is to move people through the wonders of sport which can help improve physical and mental health.
Working with London Sport has allowed us to make a positive difference in young people from the local community. We hope everyone that attends Active LDN takes away a lesson that benefits them moving forward.”
