Cascais the charming Atlantic coastal town, welcomes the return of the IRONMAN® and IRONMAN® 70.3® triathlon races this autumn (15th October 2022), inviting athletes, families and friends to participate and watch over 5,000 participants compete in the head-to-head competition.
Widely considered as one of the most challenging one-day sporting events in the world, the Cascais IRONMAN® race will consist of a 2.4-mile swim followed by a 112-mile bicycle ride and a 26.1-mile marathon.
The Cascais IRONMAN® 70.3 consists of a 1.2-mile swim followed by a 56-mile bicycle ride and a half marathon. The annual event is part of the IRONMAN® Group’s highly renowned triathlon series with over one million participants worldwide and 150 qualifying races in 50+ countries, regions and territories across the world.
This year’s swim course will lead athletes along the protected Cascais Bay, starting at Praia da Ribeira and finishing in front of the Fortress at the Clube Naval. While the bike course will offer breathtaking views of the Portuguese Riviera, Guincho Beach, a natural park of Sintra – Cascais and Estoril Formula 1 circuit.
Finally, the three-loop marathon run course will start in Cascais, follow the Guincho road along the coast to Cabo Raso and return to the heart of the coastal town.
Regularly voted as one of the top European tourist attractions, Cascais is the perfect destination for participants, family and friends to bolt on a few days after the sporting event and enjoy a cultural and relaxing break this autumn.
