A City full in History and Culture
In 1284, a collection of renegade scholars from Oxford fled to this part of the country and set up a university of their own.
After just a few decades, the resulting institution was central to the local economy, and much of the surrounding city is inseparable from it.
You can see the influence of the university in some of the key landmarks. For example, there’s the Mathematical Bridge, at Queen’s College, which was designed in 1748 by a civil engineer named William Etheridge and constructed the following year using straight pieces of timber.
As well as the famous landmarks, you might visit the chapel at King’s College, or the Fitzwilliam Museum, or any number of local theatres and venues where the musicians and artists of today are showcasing their skills.
A Hub of Learning and Innovation
Cambridge is a hub of scientific innovation and research, which makes it a fantastic place to pursue a career in these fields.
Developing this aspect of the area has been an explicit priority of the chancellor, and so those moving here might expect to enjoy more and more opportunities as the years go by.
