This Father’s Day, it might be time to skip the novelty socks and say thank you with a bit more oomph—especially if your dad hails from South Wales.
New research from Bloom & Wild has crowned Swansea the home of the UK’s most useful dads, and frankly, it’s about time someone said it out loud.
In a poll of 2,000 Brits, 69 percent of Swansea fathers were rated as always available to help—be it fixing a shelf, offering a lift, or quietly sliding some cash your way—comfortably beating the national average of 50 percent.
Leicester (68%), Cardiff (66%), and Liverpool (62%) also put in a strong showing, landing spots in the top tier of the UK’s handiest dads.
Meanwhile, dads in Southampton (60%), Cambridge (57%), and Sunderland (57%) round out the top ten, proving that when it comes to fatherly usefulness, geography might just be destiny.
But usefulness, as it turns out, isn’t just about practical tasks—it’s also a matter of emotional code.
The survey revealed what many adult children have long suspected: Dad’s love language is all action, no fluff. In fact, 61 percent admitted that while Mum might be more likely to say “I love you,” Dad shows his affection through everyday gestures.
These acts of quiet heroism include everything from giving practical advice—like which car to buy (22%)—to babysitting the grandkids (22%), tackling flat-pack furniture (19%), or stepping in for the dreaded car MOT run (20%). Even smaller moments count: 29 percent of those surveyed said their father shows love simply by bringing them a cup of tea.
Another 15 percent tipped the hat to dads who still mow their adult children’s lawns, and 17 percent highlighted the sacred bonding ritual of standing shoulder-to-shoulder at the BBQ.
To honour these understated acts of devotion, Bloom & Wild is marking Father’s Day by launching a playful AI-powered tool that creates bespoke poems—perfect for sharing with Dad on June 15th.
