We caught up more with Portsmouth both Hayley Palmer to find out more…..
How did you use lockdown to your advantage?
When I realised that I was unable to go into the studio to film anymore, I set up a green screen studio from the dining room!
It was certainly trial and error to begin with, the technical side of things, but I managed to film 100 shows in lockdown with some amazing guests including Pussycat Dolls Kimberly Wyatt, Entertainer Brian Conley and Strictly’s Anton Du Beke.
How did you get into Presenting?
I’d always dreamt of being a Presenter, and I was sat behind a desk doing a job that I wasn’t happy in, when I came across a work placement at ITV Studios.
As I had left presenting until later on in my life, my initial thought was – am I too old?! However, I took the chance, and now I’m giving it 100 percent to make up time! (I haven’t looked backed since!)
What’s helped you on your journey?
I’ve learnt to focus my mindset – we can be our own worst critic! I set out my mini goals what i want to achieve each day, and take action each day towards my dream.
I’ve also found that affirmations and visualisations are strong – the mind is so powerful, I work on it everyday.
Do you find exercise helps too?
Absolutely! I exercise daily, and I really enjoy it. It’s part of my routine. Even if you can go for a 20 minute walk, it gets you moving and ready to take on the day!
I used to exercise in the evenings, but now I have a morning routine.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
‘10 percent is what happens, and 90 percent is how you deal with it’ – I really feel this is true, because there’s some things that really aren’t worth worrying about!
How do you overcome rejection?
Rejection hurts of course – but I only give myself a couple of minutes of letting it hurt, and then I think of ways I can turn it into a positive and push forward in a slightly different way
Do you ever get nervous when presenting?
I’m more nervous about the technical side of things being ok. I really love people, I’ve always been a people person, and I never think of an ‘interview’ I think of it more of a chat as if you’re catching up with someone in a cafe/bar – that way there isn’t too much pressure, and the conversation flows much better!
Your currently presenting an ultimate ‘Stock, Aitken Waterman Chart’ How did that come about?
I worked with Mike Stock from Stock, Aitken Waterman on the Top of the Pops style show ‘That was then, this is now’ which was briliant, and now I’ve been lucky enough to present this – it’s a real dream for me as I grew up listening to all the Stock, Aitken Waterman classics, so they really do bring back alot of memories for me!
Catch Hayley presenting Part 4 of the Ultimate Stock, Aitken Waterman Countdown Friday 5pm on ambo.tv and ‘At Home with Hayley’ Wednesdays 7pm, and ‘The Memory Lane 80’s Saturdays 9pm.
