Musto’s close ties with the world’s leading sailors and events from the Olympics to the Vendée Globe continue today with the announcement of its support for four Youth teams and Women’s teams in the 37th America’s Cup.
Britain’s Athena Pathway, headed up by sailor and CEO Hannah Mills OBE, Team DutchSail, Team Australia Challenge, and Sail Team BCN of Spain will all be kitted out by the British high-performance clothing brand.
“Musto is without a doubt the leading sailing technical performance brand and their kit consistently outperforms my expectations. We are excited to be working with them on this project.”
Saskia Clarke MBE, Athena Pathway Programme
Alongside its support of these teams, Musto will also become an Official Sponsor to the Real Club Náutic de Barcelona (RCNB), hosts of the 37th edition of the America’s Cup – the world’s oldest sporting trophy.
“Musto is proud to be partnering with these four Youth America’s Cup and Puig Women’s America’s Cup teams as they compete in the world’s oldest sporting trophy,” said Nick Houchin, Musto Head of Marketing.
“The teams will be racing in technologically advanced race boats, and the kit we’ll be giving will match in innovation.
Musto will provide the sailors with the best high-performance kit to power them to compete at the very highest level and protect them from the conditions while out on the racecourse in Barcelona.”
As Technical Sailing Clothing sponsor, Musto will be kitting out the teams from its high-performance LPX and Flexlite collections, designed specifically for fast-paced sailing: ultra-lightweight, ergonomically designed, and supremely breathable.
“Clothing is everything when you are sailing out in the elements so you need kit that keeps you at the right temperature, while also being comfortable and safe. All things a clothing partner like Musto provides.”
Lucy Copeland, Team Australia Challenge
Hannah Diamond, both an offshore sailor and dinghy racer, currently SailGP Emirates GBR team member and part of the British Athena Pathway squad commented, “I love wearing Musto.
I have worn their gear across many of the projects I’ve worked on and tested it on high-performance boats both inshore and through the Southern Ocean.
They’re an industry leader and I’m pleased they’re partnering with Athena Pathway to help us win the Youth and inaugural Puig Women’s America’s Cup.”
With temperatures in September and October in Barcelona anticipated to be pushing over 25oC, and with a wind range from a light eight up to 22 knots, the kit will need to protect the sailors to allow them to perform at their very best.
Each team is selecting pieces from the LPX and Flexlite ranges. The LPX Gore-Tex Infinium Foiling Jacket, LPX Foiling Long John, LPX Gore-Tex Infinium Aero Jacket, and Shorts, LPX Gore-Tex Salopette and Smock, LPX Thermohot Foiling Top or LPX Thermocool Foiling Top are all on available to the sailors – whatever the conditions of the day demand!
From Musto’s dinghy collection, the teams can choose from the Flexlite Alumin 3.0 LS Top and Long John, Flexlite Vapour 1.0 Short, and Sunblock Dynamic SS Top.
Accessories include the LPX Impact Kneepads, Dipped Grip Glove, and Dynamic Pro II Adapt footwear.
Team support crews and RCNB officials will also be choosing from the popular Musto BR1 and Evo ranges which include the BR1 Solent Jacket and Evo Sunblock Tee 2.0.
“I am really pleased that DutchSail has chosen to partner with Musto. Along with my 49erFX Olympics partner, Odile van Aanholt, I’ve had a long-term relationship with the brand. The quality of the kit is always to an incredibly high standard. It is very comfortable, full of tech innovations, and protects us when out on the racecourses, which means we can just focus on what we have to do at that moment: sail fast!”
Annete Duetz, Team DutchSail
Guillermo Altadill, Team Principal of Sail Team BCN: “I have been linked to Musto since my first race around the world, more than 30 years ago, and now once again for the Youth and Puig Women’s America’s Cup.
Sail Team BCN is lucky to have Musto with us, providing the performance clothing for the team to wear, as well as developing the kit to the requirements of the new America’s Cup boats. They are the perfect partner to have on the team.”
The ambition for the Youth & Puig Women’s America’s Cup will be to provide a pathway for talented sailors into the America’s Cup itself.
Musto’s four sponsored teams – Britain, Spain, Australia, and the Netherlands – will be competing against eight other nations from Canada, Germany, Sweden, New Zealand, Switzerland, Italy, France, and the USA.
The four-person teams will race the AC40 in parallel with the Louis Vuitton Cup Challenger Series and 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona.
The Youth America’s Cup Final will take place 17-26 September and The Puig Women’s America’s Cup Final will be held 5-13 October.
