Bupa Dental Care recently announced its new Bupa Wildlife Trusts partnership, a collaboration designed to give local communities in the UK more ways to enjoy and protect the natural environment.
The goal: to transform practice gardens, small yards, and entranceways into nature-friendly spaces that help wildlife thrive while making every dental visit a calmer, more uplifting experience.
This partnership isn’t just about pretty flowers — there’s solid science behind it. Studies show that being around nature can seriously help reduce stress, which is great news for anyone who gets the jitters before a dentist visit.
By planting pollinator-friendly flowers, creating safe spaces for wildlife, and adding a bit more fresh air into the mix, Bupa Dental Care is hoping to bring a sense of calm to patients and staff alike — and all without stepping too far from their own front doors.
Practices are already jumping in with the ‘Bupa in Bloom’ project, working alongside The Wildlife Trusts to create healthier habitats, boost biodiversity, and make green space accessible to everyone.
The benefits go beyond the dental chair. Team members will have access to volunteering opportunities in nearby nature reserves.
They’ll also receive expert guidance on climate change, sustainable practices, and wildlife-friendly gardening, ensuring positive changes ripple out into both urban and rural areas.
Dan Skinner, Director of Risk & Sustainability at Bupa Dental Care, said: “We’re excited to be working with The Wildlife Trusts to bring our practice teams and patients closer to nature.
Being in the natural environment has a proven positive impact on our health and wellbeing, and we want our teams, patients, and local communities to experience those benefits firsthand.
“From small gardens to dedicated wildlife-friendly spaces, teaming up with The Wildlife Trusts will help us to support local biodiversity while also creating a more welcoming atmosphere – especially for those who may feel nervous about visiting the dentist.
We want to make our dental practices places that combine high-quality care with nature and community connection, helping patients feel at ease in a relaxing, nature-friendly environment.
“It also gives our practice and support teams – who are passionate about making a positive and lasting impact in our local communities – increased opportunities to support our planet’s long-term health.”
That passion for sustainable healthcare is part of a broader vision for Bupa Dental Care. By recognising the inextricable link between a healthy natural environment and human wellbeing, they’re embracing a strategy that fosters greener communities and strengthens local biodiversity.
Summing up that sentiment, Emma Price-Thomas, head of corporate partnerships at The Wildlife Trusts, says: “Evidence shows that a thriving, wildlife-rich environment has profound benefits for both physical and mental health.
Our relationship with Bupa Dental Care is bringing nature into the heart of local communities, planting the seeds for healthier, happier patients.
This initiative will extend across the country, enhancing both nature and the wellbeing of staff and patients in a flourishing upward spiral.”
So, while Bupa’s dentists continue to take care of teeth, this Bupa Wildlife Trusts partnership will be busy creating natural spaces that encourage a smile before you ever step foot in the chair—where hope, health, and a breath of fresh air can greet you at the door.
