Lace-up your boots for Macmillan’s Mighty Hikes 2025, which promises to be the biggest adventure yet, with thousands of walkers stepping out to support the charity’s vital cancer services.
As we celebrate a decade since the very first trek back in 2015, it’s incredible to think that these epic, one-day challenges have already raised a whopping £70 million. It just goes to show that putting one foot in front of the other really can change lives.
This year’s season kicks off in May and runs through to September, with 12 stunning routes across all four UK nations, including a brand-new trail through the picturesque Cotswolds.
Whether you’re a total beginner or a trail-blazing pro, each event lets you choose between a half or full marathon—so you can take on exactly the challenge you want.
From the Lake District’s awe-inspiring lakes and fells to the rugged cliffs of the Jurassic Coast, there’s a Mighty Hike adventure to suit every pace and passion.
And it’s not just about the challenge. Last year, 24,000 people took part and collectively covered over 438,000 miles—raising a staggering £10.7 million.
Among them was West Yorkshire resident Stephanie Deacon-Clow, who tackled the Lake District route with her teenage son Noah in memory of her mum Beverley.
“We lost my beautiful mum to oesophageal cancer in 2020 and I wanted to do something to give back,” she says. “The support my mum received was phenomenal.
Her Macmillan nurses ensured she could pass away at home, surrounded by her family. Doing the Mighty Hike in the Lake District felt like the perfect tribute, even if those last few miles tested us! Noah spurred me on right to the finish.”
This personal connection fuels the unstoppable energy behind Macmillan Mighty Hikes 2025. Every penny raised helps the charity continue offering everything from emotional support sessions to one-on-one nursing care.
As Helen Hancock, Mighty Hike Team Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, explains: “We’re so grateful to our amazing supporters who went the distance last year. Every donation helps us go the extra mile for people living with cancer, wherever they are.”
Where does your hard-earned fundraising go? It can fund Macmillan Buddies who provide emotional check-ins, ensure nurses are there when needed most, and even train professionals in advanced pain and symptom control. For many living with cancer, these services are a lifeline—reminding them they’re never alone.
