Think about what it takes to help half a million people every single season. It’s not just a number on a page. It’s a massive challenge, the sort that makes you wonder if everyone involved owns the world’s biggest alarm clock.
Yet, here we are with the LFC Foundation setting an extraordinary goal: by 2030, they want to reach and support 500,000 people each year. No small task, but the folks at Liverpool FC’s official charity aren’t exactly known for picking easy targets.
This new strategy unveiled at Anfield along with the 2023-24 impact report, isn’t just about increasing LFC Foundation funding. It’s about action—taking what’s been working and amplifying it.
Over the last season, the foundation managed to help more than 127,000 individuals. We’re talking about real people attending 18,000 sessions and events spread across 300 community spots, including 199 schools. Those aren’t just numbers; that’s a whole stadium’s worth of human stories getting a boost.
In purely financial terms, the 2023-24 season delivered a £92 million shot of social value to the Liverpool City Region. Add it all up over the past four years, and the total comes to a hefty £284.48 million. Within that figure is about £30 million going straight into the local economy.
Meanwhile, healthcare savings hit £122 million since 2020. Let’s put it another way: for every £1 invested in these programs, the community saw £13.70 in return. If your savings account offered that kind of ratio, you’d be telling everyone you know.
One of the most striking parts of their work is reaching those who face serious hardship. Nearly 60% of participants came from areas ranked among the most deprived in the country.
Through partnerships with local groups and initiatives like the Red Neighbours team, the foundation’s support went well beyond headlines and spreadsheets. Over 19,200 individuals dealing with significant disadvantages received tangible help worth £2.5 million. We’re talking about real relief, not just patting oneself on the back.
Looking ahead, the LFC Foundation isn’t dialling anything down. The 2025-2030 strategy involves broadening their impact to international arenas—ten countries, to be exact—while remaining firmly rooted in the Liverpool City Region.
They aim to ramp up health, learning, and employment programs that don’t just run for a headline or a season, but make a lasting difference. Their eyes are set on more partnerships, more measurable results, and a lot more people helped.
Matt Parish, LFC Foundation CEO, summed it up best, speaking directly about the journey ahead. He said: “The insights from our latest impact report, alongside the reporting over the last four years, have helped us to shape our new strategy for 2025-2030.
“We know our new strategy is ambitious but our aim is always to grow and continue to improve, so our target is to support over 500,000 by 2030 and be working internationally in ten countries through our impactful partnerships.
“We will deliver this by continuing to develop our own high quality, measurable delivery and by supporting partners to do so both in the Liverpool City Region and internationally.
“We are proud of the growth of the LFC Foundation throughout 2023-24, as well as supporting over 127,000 we have been able to launch new events such as Kip on the Kop, we hosted our most successful Legends fixture to date with a record crowd and we have been recognised externally, including success at the Football Business Awards.
“None of this would be possible without the support of the whole LFC family, the club, the players, the supporters and valued partners.
We would like to thank everyone for their support and we look forward to continuing this journey with you as we launch our new and exciting strategy.”
It’s not just the talk; it’s the transparency. Since 2020, the foundation has been reporting its results with independent verification, so when they say they’ve made a difference, they back it up with hard data. Those figures aren’t there to brag; they’re there to keep everyone honest and focused on what matters.
So, as the LFC Foundation marches toward 2030, the goals aren’t just about stacking numbers higher. It’s about spending LFC Foundation funding wisely, proving that well-placed pounds can change lives, and sharing that success story with communities near and far.
From the Liverpool City Region to places around the globe, the aim is simple: keep growing, keep improving, and keep helping real people.
