Football Legends Take on Golf: Icons of Football 2025 To Be Broadcast by Sky Sports

Get ready, because the Icons of Football golf showdown is teeing off in Bangkok, and it’s set to be an absolute must-watch.

Sky Sports has secured exclusive UK broadcasting rights for the Reignwood Icons of Football tournament, bringing all the action live on March 1-2, 2025, from the breathtaking Robinswood Golf Course in Reignwood Park.

With football legends trading their boots for golf clubs, this is more than just a game—it’s sporting theatre at its finest.

This isn’t just any golf event—it’s a crossover of sporting royalty, where football legends swap shin pads for putters in a showdown that’s bound to get competitive.

This marks the very first time the Icons Series has travelled to Asia, bringing together some of the biggest names in football and golf for a head-to-head team matchplay extravaganza.

Leading the charge for Team England is Ryder Cup legend Lee Westwood, squaring off against a world-class Team World captained by none other than Sergio Garcia.

Both teams are brimming with star quality—Joe Hart, Paul Scholes, and Teddy Sheringham will be flying the flag for Team England, while David Ginola, Peter Schmeichel, and Luís Figo are set to lead the charge for Team World.

Over two days, 24 football icons will swap their boots for golf clubs, testing their skills—and their competitive fire—in a high-intensity 10-hole matchplay format.

Expect plenty of swagger, friendly (and not-so-friendly) rivalries, and maybe even a few unexpected golfing masterstrokes along the way.

Expect fierce competition, plenty of banter, and a few surprise moments as these legends take their rivalries from the pitch to the fairways.

If you’ve ever wondered who’s got the better short game—Robbie Fowler or Nemanja Vidić—now’s your chance to find out.

Sky Sports Golf and Sky Sports Mix will be bringing all the action live across both days, with a one-hour highlights package lined up for Sky Sports Golf.

But it’s not just about the golf—expect a top-tier commentary team delivering expert insights, plenty of behind-the-scenes access, and all the banter from players, caddies, and captains as the drama unfolds in Bangkok.

Jason Wessley, Director of Golf at Sky Sports said: “Sky Sports Golf is excited to show the Reignwood Icons of Football which sees England take on the Rest of The World in a match-play golf format.

As the TGL has proven, Sky Sports customers really enjoy innovative golf formats which prove the game is a fun and varied sport. Icons of Football promises to be a great live watch at breakfast time on the weekend with a terrific line-up of Football icons guaranteed to entertain”.

Chris Sice, Chief Content Officer at Icons Series, can’t wait to see football passion merge with golf’s competitive spirit: “Icons series is all about uniting sports, and this event will bring new audiences to golf as viewers get the chance to witness their football idols in a new competitive environment.

We’re blending intense competition with next-level entertainment, in a fast-paced, fresh format. Partnering with Sky Sports allows us to take intense football rivalries and transfer them from the football pitch to the golf course in this groundbreaking team matchplay format.”
