If you’re looking for a story that’ll warm your heart more than a last-minute winner at the London Stadium, look no further than the latest West Ham United Charity Donation.
In a display of generosity that should make every Hammer proud, West Ham United has raised nearly £60,000 for the NHS and Air Ambulances UK charities, following an auction of match-worn items from the Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
It all began after Michail Antonio’s road traffic accident. The Club rallied around him by putting a special set of signed shirts and walk-out tops under the hammer, including items bearing the signatures of Antonio himself.
When the dust settled, the auction had generated £29,613, which the Board then matched pound-for-pound. The combined total of £59,226 will now be shared equally between the NHS and Air Ambulances UK, two organizations that save lives day in and day out.
The highlight of the auction was captain and match-winner Jarrod Bowen’s match-worn shirt, fetching an impressive £3,005, giving one lucky bidder quite the collectable.
Bowen’s and Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s warm-up tops—autographed by the entire West Ham squad—also turned heads, each securing a tidy £1,050.
Reflecting on the donation, First Team captain Jarrod Bowen said, “It’s been special to see the West Ham family and the wider football community come together in support of Mic over the last month.
“We are all grateful for the care that both the NHS and Air Ambulances UK have given to Mic during a challenging time for him and his family, and for what they continue to do every single day for people around the country.
“Pulling together during difficult times is what being a part of West Ham United is all about and on behalf of the team, I want to thank everyone for helping us to raise an incredible amount of money for two great causes.”
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what it means to wear the claret and blue. Everyone at West Ham sends a huge thank you to the first responders, emergency services, air ambulance staff, and NHS teams who came to Antonio’s aid.
