In the 13th round of the MotoGP World Championship, FILA takes immense pride in commemorating the triumph of the Mooney VR46 Racing Team.
This momentous victory was secured by the Italian team in the inaugural edition of the Indian Grand Prix, hosted at the Buddh International Circuit. The star of the day was none other than Marco Bezzecchi, who ascended to the highest step of the podium.
For over two decades, FILA has been an integral part of the MotoGP world. In recent years, the company, headquartered in Biella, has enjoyed a fruitful partnership with the VR46 Riders Academy, an institution founded by the legendary Valentino Rossi. The academy’s mission is to nurture and guide promising riders on their journey to the pinnacle of MotoGP.
This partnership has yielded remarkable results, highlighted by the outstanding achievements of FILA-sponsored riders Marco Bezzecchi and Luca Marini in the 2022 season. Bezzecchi’s performance was especially noteworthy, earning him the coveted ‘Rookie of the Year’ award by a significant margin.
The victory in the Indian Grand Prix marked the Mooney VR46 Racing Team’s third triumph of the season, or fourth if we consider the Sprint Race victory in Assen.
Bezzecchi’s stellar showing has narrowed the gap in the overall championship standings, with just a 44-point difference separating him from the championship leader, Francesco Bagnaia, and a 31-point gap from Jorge Martín.
The Indian Grand Prix weekend had a challenging start with a collision between the two Tavullia team riders during the Sprint Race. This unfortunate incident led to Luca Marini’s fall and Marco Bezzecchi dropping to the rear positions.
However, Bezzecchi exhibited exceptional resilience during the Sprint Race, clawing his way back to fifth place and securing a spot in the second row for Sunday’s main race.
In the main race, Bezzecchi seized the lead in the opening lap and maintained it until the race’s conclusion, capping off a remarkable performance.
The Mooney VR46 Racing Team and FILA’s commitment now shifts to the next round of the championship scheduled in Motegi, Japan, during the weekend of September 30th and October 1st.
