England Women On The Board After Victory Over India

Knight and Ecclestone

England Women kept their ICC Women’s World Cup hopes alive with a four-wicket win over India in Mount Maunganui.

Needing to win all four of their remaining games to be in with a chance of making the semi-finals, Heather Knight’s bowlers stood up to bowl India out for just 134.

Anya Shrubsole got her team going in a much-improved performance in the field with two early wickets – the first of which was her 100th in ODI cricket.

Charlie Dean followed on from Shrubsole’s fine start to bag four wickets and her career-best ODI figures, 8.2-1-23-4. The Southern Vipers off-spinner was awarded Player of the Match for her efforts with the ball.

Nat Sciver looked in fine form for her breezy 45 and captain Knight herself was there at the end, unbeaten on 53, to finally see England on the points board.

The second of their four must-win games is against hosts New Zealand in Auckland on Sunday.
