With just 3 weeks to go until Active London 2022, London Sport’s Head of Digital Behaviour Change, Chris Norfield, and Regional Physical Activity Adviser, Rob McLean share a sneak peek of what to expect from their session ‘Maximising health impact through active local spaces’ at Active London, taking place on 21 September.

In line with the theme for Active London 2022, Places and Spaces, this session will explore the health benefits of connecting Londoners to local spaces and the role this can play in addressing health inequalities across the capital.

During the session, they will be joined by Dr William Bird MBE to discuss the importance of ‘place’ and the natural environments in London, and why facilitating connections between people and their local places can make a lasting impact on the health and happiness of Londoners.

Embracing London’s Places and Spaces

The Active London panel, will include a representative from Natural England, will be exploring the argument that natural spaces should be considered alongside more traditional leisure spaces as an integral resource for supporting people to be active.

This session will bring to life the current situation in London in terms of how organisations and social prescribers are currently connecting Londoners to the green spaces around them, and important trends and issues surrounding these green spaces in the capital.

Active London will also be delving into two local case studies that reflect the realities of developing active places and spaces within densely populated and space-deficient London boroughs.

They will then finish up with a Q+A, where attendees will have the opportunity to ask the panel members for their advice or further thoughts on how best to use places and spaces in London to support health and wellbeing and tackle health inequalities through physical activity.
