Caroline Dubois wins BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2019

Caroline Dubois has been crowned BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year this evening at the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards.

The trophy was presented to the young boxer in front of award hosts BBC Radio 1 presenters Greg James, Maya Jama and Mollie King and a live studio audience.

Taking the title of Young Personality of the Year comes after another phenomenal 12 months for boxer Caroline as she won her fourth gold medal at the European Youth Championships.

The World and Olympic Youth Champion at lightweight has won 40 straight bouts and has come a long way from pretending to be a boy called Colin at the age of nine just to be able to train at her local sports club in West London. Her sights are now firmly set on competing at the 2020 Olympics for Great Britain.

The Young Sports Personality of the Year title was hotly contested this year with ten talented young athletes in the running for the award.

The ten were Charlie Aldridge (Cycling), Caitlin Beevers (Rugby), Sky Brown (Skateboarding), Josh Hill (Golf), Bethany Paull (Gymnastics), Aaliyah Powell (Taekwondo), Ottile Robinson-Shaw (Canoeing), Toni Shaw (Para swimming) and Maisie Summers-Newton (Para swimming).

Caroline follows in the footsteps of 2018 winner Kare Adenegan, past sporting superstars like Ellie Simmonds, Wayne Rooney, Andy Murray and Tom Daley, who was this year on the Young Sports Personality of the Year judging panel having won the award three times himself.

Caroline was selected by a panel from nominations made to the BBC and by sports governing bodies via the Youth Sport Trust and in partnership with Blue Peter.

BBC Sports Personality of the Year takes place on Sunday 15 December at 7pm live on BBC One from the P&J Live arena in Aberdeen.

Watch the moment Caroline is presented with her award on Saturday 30 November when the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards will be on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer from 4pm.
