With the 2019/20 season of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League now over, Ian Wright has written a letter dedicated to the season, its players and its fans, before turning his attention to the next season which starts later this year.
Here’s the full Transcript and video below
“This letter is to you – the fans, the players, the clubs, and to all those who make this League so special.
We couldn’t write the ending we had hoped, but just remember this, it was an unforgettable season! It started off the back of an historic summer, taking our game to new heights. It delivered special atmospheres, special players and special moments, week in, week out.
Crowds came, records smashed, stadiums rocked and of course, the players didn’t disappoint. We saw the grandest of settings, the fiercest of rivalries, and the spotlight shine on the game like never before.
Thank you for showing us it’s all to play for and striving to be the best. Thank you to the new friends we made, and the relationships we built.
We found new ways of watching, around stadiums, at home and around the globe, bringing the game closer to us all.
Thank you for giving more girls than ever the opportunity to play, providing them with the role models that continue to inspire and enabling a future where equal access really is possible.
Reflecting with pride, we look towards next season with hope and optimism. We will be back. The players will dazzle us – the skills, the saves, the goals. We’re ready to grow again. It’s a journey and we’re on it together. But for now, stay safe.
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League. Join us soon for the next chapter. Thank you.”
