Pilates Powerhouse: Surrey Based Health Club Launches New Reformer Pilates Studio

Thames Club Reformer Room

In a dynamic response to the burgeoning demand for Reformer Pilates, The Thames Club has unveiled a new, state-of-the-art Reformer Pilates studio, further enriching its Hot Yoga Club brand.

Situated just outside Staines town centre along the serene River Thames, a short distance from central London, The Thames Club has long been celebrated for its innovative approach to health and fitness.

A Journey of Innovation and Growth

The Thames Club, renowned for its forward-thinking initiatives, embarked on a transformative journey in 2018 by introducing a dedicated Hot Yoga Club.

This standalone brand and membership were crafted to cater to the growing interest in holistic health and wellness.

The Hot Yoga Club’s resounding success not only expanded the membership base but also significantly boosted revenue.

Continuing this trajectory of growth and innovation, in 2022, Managing Director Peter Williams and Studio Manager Laura Hedges decided to integrate a Reformer Pilates studio.

Laura reflects, “The dedicated Reformer Pilates studio was a hit from the start. It attracted existing Hot Yoga and Health Club members, as well as new community members, thereby expanding our membership and revenue.”

Expanding to Meet Demand

The initial success of the Reformer Pilates studio was so overwhelming that it soon faced a significant demand-supply gap.

Laura explains, “Two years on, we couldn’t keep up with the demand. Many classes had waiting lists. In response, we relocated the Reformer Pilates studio to a larger space next to the Hot Yoga studio and added three new Balanced Body® Allegro® 1 Reformers.”

This expansion increased the total number of Reformers to eight, enhancing the club’s capacity to cater to the growing demand.

Laura adds, “Balanced Body® was the clear choice for our new Reformers due to their superior quality and our existing positive experience with them.”

The Global Reformer Pilates Trend

The popularity of Reformer Pilates at The Thames Club is not an isolated phenomenon but part of a global trend.

Peter Williams provides insight into why Reformer Pilates has captivated the world: “Pilates is incredibly versatile, supporting a range of physical and mental health benefits.

It enhances strength, bone density, balance, mobility, flexibility, agility, and power. Celebrities and influencers sharing their Reformer experiences on social media have significantly boosted its popularity.”

The club has witnessed diverse demographic engagement, including a notable increase in male participation.

“Our goal is to make The Thames Club and Hot Yoga Club accessible to everyone. This inclusivity benefits individuals, our community, and the club by driving revenue, which we reinvest to meet evolving consumer needs,” Peter notes.

Launch and Future Prospects

The new 8-Reformer Pilates studio officially opened at The Thames Club in the week commencing April 8, 2024.

Currently, the club offers over 30 classes weekly, catering to all levels, from beginners to seasoned practitioners.

Mark Mailhot, Commercial Fitness Sales Manager at Balanced Body, praises The Thames Club’s swift response to consumer demand: “Reformer Pilates provides an incredible service and revenue opportunity for club operators.

Consumers are willing to pay a premium for high-quality Reformer Pilates experiences. We look forward to supporting The Thames Club and Hot Yoga Club on their journey.”
