London Sport has confirmed that the prestigious London Sport Awards will be returning in March 2024 and that nominations are now open until 31 December 2023 to individuals and organisations across the sports and physical activity sector.
In partnership with the City of London Corporation, the 2024 London Sport Awards will celebrate the incredible stories of volunteers, sports providers, community clubs, businesses and other organisations who are improving the lives of Londoners through sport.
There are ten categories open for nominations, including the Volunteer of the Year, the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Business Contribution Award, and the newly established Environmental Impact and Sustainability in Sport Award in association with Decathlon.
Emily Robinson, London Sport CEO, said: “It is so important that we recognise the incredible work that is happening across the capital, and the London Sport Awards are the perfect vehicle to celebrate those who are going above and beyond to help local communities access sport and physical activity.
The inactivity crisis in London gives us good reason to be worried about the health and wellbeing of Londoners, but we know that there is a huge number of people who are committed to tackling this crisis in bold and creative ways. We want to shine a light on these stories and ensure that their wonderful work does not go unnoticed.
We can’t wait to unearth more of these stories during the nominations period and we encourage everyone to nominate themselves or others who are helping to make a difference in their community!”
Returning for its eighth edition of the event, the Awards will once again be hosted at the spectacular Guildhall, the headquarters of London Sport’s long-standing partner, the City of London Corporation.
City of London Corporation Policy Chairman, Chris Hayward, said: “We are proud to be partnering with London Sport on these Awards.
This is an important moment to reflect on the amazing individuals and organisations who are committed to tackling inactivity and whose work can inspire us all.
The UK sports sector is integral to our economic success and global reach. The industry boosts the economy through job creation and spending, and by reducing healthcare costs due to a healthier population.
But it is not all about economics – the social value of the UK sports industry is also clear. It transforms lives and is the glue that binds people and communities together.
From the volunteers who devote their time to their local sports club, to the businesses who support vital community activity, we look forward to welcoming the London Sport Awards finalists to Guildhall.”
