UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 has launched a new phrasebook showcasing a selection of light-hearted football terms and chants native to each competing nation in this summer’s record-breaking tournament.
Tournament organisers have partnered with journalist and author of ‘Do you Speak football?’ Tom Williams, to create a new ‘It’s Showtime! Football Phrases’ book for football fans to welcome teams competing in the tournament.
With tickets still available, the book aligned to the Tournament’s national ‘It’s Showtime!’ campaign will allow fans to get engaged in even more games by learning and using new phrases.
Including ‘Panna’ meaning ‘gate’ in Dutch, when a player plays the ball between an opponent’s legs, or ‘lissepasning’ in Danish, which means ‘shoelace pass’ and is used to describe a pass played with pinpoint accuracy. The ‘It’s Showtime! Football Phrases’ book is available to download now.
Football Journalist and author, Tom Williams said: “Football is a game that unites people from all over the world so it’s fantastic that through the power of language we can showcase the vibrant matchday culture that exists across Europe.
Women’s EURO 2022 is the perfect platform to celebrate that sense of community and shared understanding of the beautiful game.”
More than 500,000 tickets have been sold across the nine host cities that include Brighton & Hove, London, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Rotherham, Sheffield, Southampton, Trafford and Wigan & Leigh.
UEFA Women’s EURO England 2022 brings the tournament back to England for the first time since 2005.
