The Difference Between K1 and K2
 

Vitamin K is well known for its role in blood clotting. But what is not as well known is that Vitamin K is not a single vitamin - it is a family of vitamins comprised of K1 (phylloquinone) and K2 (menaquinone). 

Vitamins K1 and K2 share similarities, such as working in the liver for blood clotting, and chemically, they share a quinone ring called menadione. But that is where their similarities end.

Vitamin K2 has several molecules, called menaquinones, which makes it available beyond the liver for other systems, such as the bones and the vasculature. By activating proteins already present in the body, Vitamin K2 helps the body properly utilize calcium, binding it to bone while inhibiting it from depositing in arteries and soft tissues, protecting the heart. 

Put simply: Vitamin K2 can do what K1 cannot.

Here’s Why Your Gym Is Busier This Month Than In January
 

Brits are more likely to hit the gym this month than any other time of year - including January - according to new research.

A survey of 1,000 UK adults by Total Fitness reveals June is the most popular month for working out, with 70% of the UK population saying they are more likely to exercise regularly in this month.

This is more than any other month in the year – including January, despite 49% of the UK population saying they start the year with fitness and exercise related new year's resolutions.*

For more than 1 in 2 (51%), they are more likely to exercise in the warmer months to lose weight before a summer holiday.

While 1 in 5 (20%) say they would be more likely to exercise in preparation for a friend or relative’s wedding, so that they look their best for the photos.

As well as these motivating factors, June is also likely to present fewer barriers to exercise, with cold weather (40%) and having less daylight in the evening (21%) being two of the top aspects that put respondents off exercising.

Paul McNicholas, Operations Director at Total Fitness says: “We always see a spike in membership usage in January when many kick off the new year with good intentions, but summer is the time that members renew their focus in readiness for their summer holidays.”

Thirty abstract figurative oil paintings explore what successful people are willing to put themselves through in order to succeed
 

BRIT artist Lincoln Townley today announces he has sold out his ‘Behind The Mask’ collection which is showing at  the world famous La Biennale exhibition in Venice.

The London born artist’s biggest show to date was unveiled last month at the prestigious Palazzo Bembo on The Grand Canal.

The collection of thirty abstract figurative oil paintings explored what successful people are willing to put themselves through in order to succeed.

The powerful paintings, some reaching sizes of over 8 feet square, will be on display to the world’s art lovers and buyers in Venice from May 14 - November 24 but they have now ALL sold to international buyers in less than a month.

The astonishing ‘Sell Out’ show at the prestigious location has broken all records for Lincoln with sales far exceeding the £5m expected figure. Lincoln now he has his sights on his autumn show a London’s highly respected Saatchi Gallery.

The La Bienale exhibition took eight months in planning and even before the show opened over 80 per cent of the Behind The Mask had already been allocated to international art collectors. The rest quickly followed.

Lincoln Townley said: “When I take part in an art show I see it as a show not a sales opportunity, it helps with the promotion of my brand but not sales directly as I believe great artists sell work between shows. I had sold 80% of my show at Palazzo Bembo in Venice before we even put the works in a crate to travel to the exhibition. I connect directly with my clients, I don’t lean on my galleries and hope for the best, I make things happen daily. Art collectors are interested in where an artist has come from and what they are doing now but more importantly they want to know what is next for the artist; therefore I’m more interested in moving onto my next show of works.

Selling out my show at La Biennale means I can now focus on my next move which is showing works in Chelsea’s Saatchi Gallery this September.

“My next collection Greed which explores how greed is not just good its great! Directing ones greed in a creative and commercial manner can only deliver exciting results and I want to celebrate this with my new works which even though I’m only just finishing at my London studio we are already marketing and taking orders directly through using WhatsApp and Instagram to connect with buyers directly. My need for physical galleries is disappearing completely, I promote myself as an artist just as interested in the art of selling equal to the art of creating my collection of works. I’m interested in success and the adage made famous in the film Wall Street - Greed is good!” 

Lincoln Townley said of the Mask collection: “I’m interested in people who take risks and go at life guns blazing. These characters hardly ever show you what’s going on behind the mask yet continue to drain every ounce out of life in their own very unique and robust way. 

“They charge forward providing the power to keep their human machine moving towards their own definition of glory. Painting drives thoughts in my mind that wrap around the suggestion that the human race is obsessed with success, fame and fortune. This pattern is extremely exciting but only a few have the mental and physical platform to pull it off, if someone is not well enough equipped they then take incredible risks to achieve this goal. 

“In some of my paintings the figure is achieving, striving and winning but in many the lack of direction and increase in ego will lead to dire circumstances which inevitably lead to pain and suffering; something I see as extremely beautiful when portrayed as a painting. These people constantly walk a tightrope, in most cases they are bravely or foolishly walking into the unknown. Personally I hate a risk free life, I see my personal pursuit weighed down with pushing out so hard I’m bound to fail at some things but achieve hugely in others, because by taking risks even when I fail, I learn.

Multi-millionaire Townley’s dramatic rise to fame in the global art market has seen him grow from six years ago to today where his work sells for in excess of £1million. 

Lincoln has been commissioned to paint many of the world’s biggest icons including Charlie Sheen, Al Pacino, Sir Michael Caine and his original oil paintings of demons drawn from the unconscious mind, have been exhibited at major international galleries including the National Gallery and the Royal Academy of Arts in London, Los Angeles and the Brisbane Powerhouse.

Lincoln painted Sir Michael Caine and his wife Shakira, after presenting him the painting the legendary actor said: "There's no doubt in my opinion that Lincoln is the next Andy Warhol." 

Two years ago Lincoln sold a diamond encrusted portrait of the late Princess Diana for a personal record-breaking £1million, beating his previous record of £510,000 set by his painting of Mohammed Ali. The Princess Diana painting, a huge two metre square oil and acrylic spray on linen, had over £100,000 worth of diamonds embedded into the canvas to give a spectacular finish.

Townley sold one of his major ‘Hell’ works using the cryptocurrency Bitcoin for over half a million pounds will use the Venice exhibition to unveil his Behind The Mask collection, valued at over £5million.

The global launch at La Biennale of 25 number works of art depict man’s desires and the need to succeed. The collection shows graphically the layers of our lives controlled by the use of oil paint and charcoal on paper. 

The self taught artist has struggled against an established art market and is now collected across the world including America, Australia, the Middle East and Europe.

The Venice Biennale has been established for over 120 years and is one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. Established in 1895, the Biennale has an attendance of over 500,000 visitors at the Art Exhibition every year. The history of the La Biennale di Venezia dates back from 1895, when the first International Art Exhibition was organised. In the 1930s new festivals were born: Music, Cinema, and Theatre (the Venice Film Festival in 1932 was the first film festival in history). In 1980 the first International Architecture Exhibition took place and in 1999 Dance made its debut at La Biennale.

La Biennale has hosted collections over the years including many British artists such as Henry Moore, Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Richard Hamilton, Gilbert & George, Anish Kapoor, Damien Hirst, Tracey Erin, Sarah Lucas and Steve McQueen.

The internationally successful artist has also been chosen for the fourth year to paint the BAFTA honourees. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts honourees included Kenneth Branagh, Matt Damon, Ava DuVernay, Claire Foy, film legend Dick Van Dyke, Jodie Foster, Ricky Gervais, Samuel L. Jackson, Felicity Jones, Ang Lee, and Ewan McGregor. The previous year he painted Orlando Bloom, James Corden, Harrison Ford, Sam Mendes, Amy Schumer and Meryl Streep.

Wagamama Goes Naked
 

wagamama has launched the much-anticipated naked katsu curry - a lighter version of their most popular and iconic dish.

It is the first time that wagamama has created a lower calorie alternative to the hugely popular katsu curry containing almost half the calories.

The chicken katsu curry - chicken coated in crispy panko breadcrumbs, covered in an aromatic curry sauce, served with sticky rice and a side salad - contains 1,134 calories per serving.

The naked katsu curry - grilled curried chicken on a bed of brown rice, with edamame beans, shredded carrots, dressed mixed leaves and Japanese pickles served with a side of katsu curry sauce - contains 607 calories.

Last year wagamama sold a staggering 815 tonnes of katsu curry sauce and 3.5m of its most famous and successful dish, the chicken katsu curry - thats 10,000 every day!

The naked katsu has been designed as a lighter alternative to the classic dish to complement the summer menu. It’s part of the kokoro bowls range alongside nuoc cham tuna and avant gard’n, complete with vegan ‘egg’.  Each dish in the range comes in at under 650 calories.

The katsu curry has been on the wagamama menu with the same recipe since the brand launched in 1992 - the year in which the first ever text message was sent.

The naked katsu curry has been a massive success with guests at wagamama’s test kitchen on Dean Street, London, ‘Noodle Lab’, and has now been rolled out nationally to all restaurants in the UK.  Noodle Lab is where wagamama focuses on innovation, trialling new dishes with guests and gaining live feedback.

Southbank Centre announces it's new series exploring mental health in literature
 

Southbank Centre today announces its most jam-packed literature season to date with more than 35 events taking place from September - December 2019 across its three auditoriums (Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room) as well as in its National Poetry Library, Hayward Gallery and foyer spaces.

The season sees an expanded programme of non-fiction talks and discussions with leading writers and thinkers on topics from atheism to parenting to talking to strangers. As part of the non-fiction programme, Southbank Centre is delighted to launch a new series of events Reading the Mind exploring mental health and wellbeing through literature. The series begins in September with award-winning writers and qualified nurses Nathan Filer and Christie Watson, in conversation together for the first time, and continues into 2020 with events in the Spring and Summer seasons.

Award-winning writers present new works of fiction in exclusive London events. POETRY AND SPOKEN WORD

Out-Spoken, one of London’s premier poetry and live music nights, continues its year-long residency at Southbank Centre. Hosted by poet and founder of SLAMbassadors national youth slamJoelle Taylor and featuring the beats of DJ Sam 'Junior' Bromfield, the first of three live events sees poet and founder of Out-Spoken Anthony Anaxagorou take the stage alongside writer and visual artist Bobby Parker and legendary spoken-word artist Salena Godden and features music from Nigerian Afro Fusion musician Villy and singer-songwriter Azekel (PUR, 26 Sep). The second edition kicks off Poetry International with a stellar line up of poets to be announced (PUR, 17 Oct) and the third features Forward Prize winning poet Liz Berry, acclaimed Faber poet Zaffar Kunial and Ted Hughes Award winner Hollie McNish (PUR, 28 Nov). Three corresponding masterclasses open to anyone with an interest in poetry, are hosted by leading poets including internationally touring poet, playwright and performer Inua Ellams (SUN, 21 Sep; FOY, 12 Oct; FOY, 23 Nov).

Southbank Centre’s National Poetry Library presents a number of events and exhibitions across the season. National Poetry Library LatesSouthbank Centre’s series of poetry salons in the Hayward Gallery Cafe returns, showcasing performances and readings from today’s leading poets and emerging talent (HGC, 20 Nov). The National Poetry library also presents regular free exhibitions: Guernica Remakings displays new audio-visual responses to Picasso’s anti-war masterpiece and includes commissions from poets So Mayer and Richard Price embedded within the work (NPL, until 22 Sept); and the library marks the 30th anniversary of Samuel Beckett’s death with Library of the Unword, a new exhibition from South Korean artist Joo Yeon Park who has created new works in response to Beckett’s poems (NPL, 5 Dec - 29 Mar 2020). Further events at the library include A Homage to Raaz, an evening of readings and tribute to poet and founder of Survivors’ Poetry, Razz (NPL, 4 Sep); A Bargain with the Light which sees poet Jacqueline Saphra reflect on photos of and by photographer and war journalist Lee Miller (NPL, 2 Oct); and Beyond Imitation, a discussion examining poetry’s relationship with art featuring special guest speakers and poets Tammy Yoseloff, Claire Collison, Abegail Morley and Kathryn Maris who read from their work (NPL, 4 Dec).

To celebrate National Poetry Day on 3 October, Southbank Centre and The Poetry Society jointly present a range of poetry workshops and free performances, open to school pupils aged 7-11. Featured poets include Raymond Antrobus, Jade Cuttle, Dzifa Benson, Daljit Nagra, Young People’s Laureate for London Theresa Lola and winners of the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award (CBR, 3 Oct).

LIVE READINGS, PERFORMANCE AND DISCUSSIONS

The Booker Prize Readings are a major highlight of the literary calendar, and once again return to Southbank Centre, showcasing the authors shortlisted for the 2019 prize reading from their work, on the evening before the winner is announced (RFH, 13 Oct).

London’s leading LGBTQ+ literary salon, Polari, returns for three events this Autumn Season hosted by Polari founder and writer Paul Burston. The first takes place during London Literature Festival with line-up to be announced. The second marks its twelfth birthday and features BAFTA-winning screenwriter and TV producer Russell T Davies in conversation about his work including Queer as Folk and Years and Years (L5FR, 25 Nov) whilst the third is headlined by writer Lisa Jewell who reads from and discusses her new book The Family Upstairs (L5FR, 9 Dec).

As part of its 40th anniversary celebrations, the London Review of Books brings the acclaimed New York literary-music series Against the Grain to the UK for the first time in an exclusive event. The evening of readings, conversation, contemporary music and one-night-only collaboration features Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon, Canadian poet and translator Anne Carson, American composer Nico Muhly and guests (QEH, 30 Oct).

The season additionally features discussions with contributors to new anthologies. Editor and activist Mariam Khan is in conversation with Salma El-Wardany, fellow contributor to a new collection It’s Not About the Burqa: Muslim Women on Faith, Feminism, Sexuality and Race exploring contemporary Muslim female experiences, alongside additional panellists to be announced (PUR, 7 Nov); artists and contributors to a new collection Smashing It: Working Class Artists on Life, Art and Making It Happen including poet and editor of the collection Sabrina Mahfouz and Southbank Centre Creative Director Madani Younis, who chairs the session, showcase and perform their work, offering tips and personal insights on how to make it into the arts (PUR, 23 Sep); and Brazilian British novelists Yara Rodrigues Fowler and Luzia Sauma as well as award-winning Argentine British poet Leo Boix, contributors to the first ever anthology of British Latinx writers, Un Nuevo Sol: British Latinx Writers, read from their work in an evening hosted by writer and publisher Nii Ayikwei Parkes, the founder of flipped eye publishing (L5FR, 19 Nov).

Continuing its education offer, alongside the monthly Out-Spoken poetry masterclasses, Southbank Centre presents a six-week poetry writing course How to Be a Person, led by poet Will Harris (25 Sep - 4 Dec) and acclaimed writer Courttia Newland leads a six-week creative writing course City Lights exploring the theme of urban metropolis (30 Oct - 11 Dec).

LONDON LITERATURE FESTIVAL AND POETRY INTERNATIONAL

Southbank Centre's London Literature Festival returns for its thirteenth year this October (17th - 27th), bringing together today's leading writers, thinkers and cultural observers for 11 days of talks, readings, poetry and performance. This year's edition once again opens with Poetry International (17th - 20th), Southbank Centre's longest running festival, founded by former Poet Laureate Ted Hughes in 1967, with four days of poetry and performance from today's leading poets and spoken word artists from across the world. Previous London Literature Festival participants include Salman Rushdie, Akala, Margaret Atwood, Philip Pullman, Claudia Rankine, Carol Ann Duffy, Louis Theroux, Roger Daltrey, Chibundu Onuzo, Lauren Child, Juno Dawson, Nikesh Shukla, Joy Harjo, Terrance Hayes, Tom Hanks, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Sally Field. The programme for London Literature Festival and Poetry International 2019 will be announced in July.

Jordan Brand Welcomes Jayson Tatum and Rui Hachimura to its Basketball Roster

Tatum, a native of St. Louis whose love for Jordan Brand began as a kid, was selected third overall in the 2017 NBA Draft. Joining a team full of established veterans, Tatum made his presence known during his first post-season run as he broke multiple rookie records for playoff scoring. The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 scores a new record for a women’s football competition
 

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 has hit the halfway stage of the tournament and also a new record for total UK TV reach for a women’s football competition.

Surpassing the current record of 12.4m, which was set back in 2015 during the World Cup in Canada, the TV reach now stands at 17.2m ahead of the knockout phases making it the UK’s most viewed women’s football tournament on record.

This is one of the many highlights from an exciting competition that has also seen a record-breaking 6.1m tune in for England v Scotland, Australia’s three-goal comeback against Brazil, Marta becoming the all-time leading goal scorer at women’s or men’s World Cup and the emotional scenes that followed Thailand’s first-ever World Cup goal.

Highlights from the tournament so far:

  • Top five TV audience games: England v Scotland (6.1m), England v Argentina (5.4m), England v Japan (4.7m), France v South Korea (2.2m) and USA v Chile (2m)

USA Football’s 2019 Protection Tour kicks off its national schedule
 

Offering the fun and fitness of football to young athletes, USA Football’s 2019 Protection Tour kicks off its national schedule on June 23. The series of USA Football events, conducted in partnership with Riddell, delivers expert-driven football and player safety information to youth players, parents and coaches, including tackling fundamentals, concussion education and equipment fitting.

The 2019 Protection Tour encompasses six free, single-day summer events for approximately 2,000 youth players. Across major cities in the UK, digital screens in London, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Glasgow and Birmingham will display social media messages that challenge passersby to think about their own tone online, and to encourage them to consider kinder alternatives. Social media messages will be displayed on interactive digital screens at key sites including London’s Leicester Square and Manchester’s Printworks, which will then transform in real time into alternative messages of kindness - encouraging more thoughtful actions and comments when interacting online.

Celebrities and influencers from around the world including Instagram stars Paige Spiranac and Chessie King will be publishing exclusive Stop Cyberbullying Day videos on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter with messages of support and empowerment.

Throughout Stop Cyberbullying Day, interviews with thought leaders, public figures and influencers will be published exclusively on the Cybersmile website. These expert interviews will explore all aspects of social media, online behaviours and digital civility.

Creative awareness campaign with One Minute Briefs

A Stop Cyberbullying Day digital poster contest will be launched online by the One Minute Briefs creative community that will task designers around the world to create and share on social media impactful posters relating to the dangers and effects of cyberbullying.

Gamers around the world will be broadcasting livestreams to promote kindness and inclusion within their communities.

Popular game MovieStarPlanet will encourage players across 16 countries to participate in special Stop Cyberbullying Day activities introduced in-game. On Sunday 23rd June, 10 2019 – 4pm, the hotel will welcome more than 250 classic vehicle exhibits, including East Sussex Jaguar Enthusiast Club, Jaguar Drivers Club, and Just Historic Cars, to name but a few.

The Mayor of Hastings, Cllr Nigel Sinden and the Deputy Mayor Cllr James Bacon will be opening the show at 11am.

The gardens will be dotted with local crafts and some great children's entertainment, including Hastings miniature railway and bouncy castles, face painting, as well as live music from East Sussex DJs, Pete Prescott and Paul Crimin.

There will also be a prosecco and Pimms tent and a variety of food stalls on offer. Work from local artist, Brenda Hartill, will also be showcased in the hotel’s new gallery.

Pitch your tent uphill

Identify some landmarks after setting up your camp

You may be one of the very first people to arrive on site but soon enough your crazy coloured tent won't be standing out quite as much as you thought it would. Find out what area you are in so you can ask for directions and try to locate some landmarks - a unique flag or memorable tree will do.

Another portable charger

Since one is never enough. You’ll never be able to keep track of your friends, and you’ll want to document all those ‘moments’, so pack accordingly.

A small, but carefully chosen, selection of medicines

  1. Painkillers.

  2. Rehydration sachets – they’re the ultimate hangover cure.

  3. A pack of plasters – you never know when you might need one.

Bin bags

You’ll need an entire roll. You’ll be needing them for your rubbish when you pack at the end of the festival, and not only that they are really handy for using as a makeshift doormat for muddy boots and added waterproof should you need it.

Pack appropriate snacks

The most comprehensive study of the Copenhagen Marathon, over the last six years, released today from Runnerclick reveals new insights about differences in runners in different age groups and gender.

Analyzing more than 40,000+ running records over the last six years, for the Copenhagen Marathon, the data reveals surprising findings including the decrease in the younger generation, while the older generation increases in participation.

The age group 60-69 has increased the most in age participation (64.8%) over the last six years, which also reveals that the age group 0-19 has had the highest decrease in participation.

Another surprising finding was that the women runners have increased their participation by over 27% while the men have only increased by 7%. The total increase between genders is 11.6%.

BBC providing Wimbledon coverage of all 18 courts in HD live for the first time ever
 

Wimbledon 2019 begins on 1 July, with the BBC bringing unmissable coverage across TV, radio and digital platforms once again.

Coverage of the prestigious tournament will come from a top class talent line-up and extensive multi-platform offerings to provide audiences with analysis from the best in the sport, alongside behind-the-scenes access from the court.

BBC Sport’s digital service at Wimbledon will be larger than ever this year. The BBC’s ultra-high definition trials are being expanded this year, so that viewers with compatible TVs will be able to watch every centre court match in UHD and high dynamic range on BBC iPlayer and by pressing the red button. And for the first time ever, every match from all 18 courts will be available live and on-demand on BBC iPlayer and on the BBC Sport website and app. All broadcast programmes will be available for 30 days.

A study involving 38,000 women found those eating at least one apple a day were 28% less likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those eating no apples, while a recent analysis of 5 trials, involving almost a quarter of a million people, found that regular consumption of apples and pears is associated with an 18% reduced risk of type 2 diabetes” Pieces of fruit are ideal for picnics as they’re so easy to transport, or why not combine your favourites for a delicious fruit salad.

3) Enjoy a chocolate-y treat

Just opt for dark chocolate – “dark chocolate and cocoa powder contain antioxidants that improve insulin resistance to help lower glucose levels, protect against heart disease and have beneficial effects on the circulation to reduce diabetes- related side effects! Just ensure your chocolate contains at least 70% cocoa solids to minimise sugar content.” Try dipping your fruit into melted dark chocolate and popping in the fridge to set the night before your picnic or simply pack a tasty bar to snap and share.
