On 16th November Esther Wane, a Harpenden based mother, award-winning audiobook narrator and creative coach, will take to a central London stage to tell her story at the TEDxRoyalCentralSchool event.
Growing up, Esther was highly creative and would spend hours working on imaginative projects. After university, convention stepped in and she forged a successful career in investment banking. While this path offered Esther status and security, it didn’t bring fulfillment and left her wondering – is this it? It was the birth of her daughter and grappling with early motherhood, that made her follow the creative path that brings her joy, purpose and a very different kind of success today.
Esther says, “The 2019 TEDxRoyalCentralSchool event is all about ideas worth sharing, and I hope what I have to say will entertain the audience and inspire them to embrace their creativity. My talk, ‘Grow Up and Get Creative’ is designed to stop people from believing they are victims in their life and instead give them the push to take responsibility to grow into the creative heroes they are meant to be. Then everyone can, as Gandhi said, ‘be the change they want to see in the world’.
She adds, “Like so many people, I followed the career path that was expected of me and, as a result, spent many years feeling as if there was something missing. It took the birth of my daughter, and the onset of post-natal depression, for me to question my life and find something that would make bring me the joy and purpose to thrive, and in turn, help those around me thrive too.
She ends by saying, “My work helps put people back in touch with their creativity so they can use it to grow, solve complex problems and make things better for themselves and others. I believe that creativity is a source of not only mental health, but mental wealth, and when we have this in our lives we can thrive rather than just survive.”
TEDxRoyalCentralSchool is an independently organised TED event by the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama and this promises to bring together an eclectic group of speakers who will inspire the audience and offer them creative food for thought.
